A Message
from Our Principal
Welcome
to Canterbury Woods, 2018-2019! We have had a busy summer getting ready
for your children to return or to join our wonderful school community! We so enjoyed getting to meet many new families last night at the PTA's Popsicles on the Playground event!
As your new principal, I have spent much of my summer
getting to know many of our outstanding teachers and I can tell you with
confidence that your children are in EXCELLENT hands! Learn a bit about me by
visiting our school website (https://canterburywoodses.fcps.edu/features/welcome-principal-leipzig).
We are also excited to welcome back Assistant Principal Deirdre
Ladd, and to welcome new Assistant Principal Mindy Milliron. Take a look at our
school website (https://canterburywoodses.fcps.edu/) for
school hours, procedures and ways to keep track of what is happening at CWES!
Best wishes on a great kick-off to a new school year!

Supply
List Clarifications
We apologize that there were some changes made to the supply lists
over the course of the summer. Most notably:
-
Mason Jars were included on all lists at the
beginning of the summer. These were removed. Why? Mason jars
were added to every grade level list by a staff member no longer at our school.
The notion of 800 jars arriving the first day of school with no one to champion
their use was a bit daunting, so we made the decision to remove them from the
lists!
-
The fifth grade list used to have notebooks
and folders. Now it doesn’t. Why? When the
fifth grade team learned they would be able to go one-to-one with devices, they
didn't want to obligate parents to buy notebooks if they hadn't already done
so. That is also why they added headphones.
Now what
do I do?
- If you have
already purchased supplies that are no longer required and you are unable to use or return them, we would be happy to put them to good use for a variety of school projects and/or donate them to a
nearby FCPS Title 1 school. Just bring them to the office.
- For anyone
who isn’t sure they have the right supplies, wait until school begins and ask
the classroom teacher for clarification.
Remember, the only essential school supply
your child’s teacher needs that first day of school is YOUR CHILD. The rest can
wait!
So sorry for the inconvenience these changes may have caused. Thank you for understanding!
TDAP BOOSTER REQUIRED FOR SIXTH GRADE!
If you have a rising sixth grader, he or she
CANNOT begin school until he or she has a TDAP (tetanus, diphtheria, acellular
pertussis) booster.
Letters are being mailed out to
all families for whom we do not have documentation of a TDAP booster.
Your
child will not be assigned a teacher until proper documentation is
brought to the office.
Note that this is a directive from the Fairfax County
Health Department. Learn more at:

How do I
learn what class my child is in?
You will have multiple opportunities for learning about your
child’s classroom placements:
-
On Friday, August 24 at 4:30 PM you can log
into your SIS Parent Account and your child’s teacher will be listed there.
Don’t have a SIS account? If you are a new family, a letter will be automatically sent with an activation code. If you are a returning family and aren't sure how to access your existing account, contact the Student Information Administrator in the office for help.
-
On Friday, August 24 at 4:30 PM, the class
lists will be posted on the front doors of the building and will remain up over
the weekend. (Note: Only students’ first names and the first initial of their
last names will be posted.)
- On Monday, August 27, staff members will greet
families who arrive for the Open House/Back to School Event with class placement
information to direct them to the appropriate classrooms.
