Dear Parents,

We hope everyone is having a wonderful summer.  Oak Hill is busily preparing for your child’s return to school!  Mr. Credle and I look forward to our Popsicles and Playdate with our new Kindergartners on Friday at 10am on our playground.  Please see below for some important reminders.

Open House

Oak Hill will host its annual Open House on Monday, August 27.  Teachers are looking forward to meeting you and your child.  Don't forget to join the PTA.  Below is the Open House schedule.

  • Kindergarten, 9-9:30am
  • Grades 1-6, 9:30-10:30am

First Day of School

The first day of school is Tuesday, August 28.  If your child will not be starting on the first day, please email the registrar Vicki Baron at vjbaron@fcps.edu and let her know the reason and the date your child will begin.


Class Placement and Transportation Information

A Keep-in-Touch (KIT) email from Oak Hill will be sent on Friday, August 24th.  The body of the email will have your child’s class placement and the attachment will have important school information for the 2018-2019 school year.

Transportation will send out communication on August 24th with bus route information.  Bus information will also be available on your child’s Blackboard account.


Back-to-School Nights

Below is the schedule for Oak Hill's Back-to-School Nights.  The Back-to-School Nights are for parents only.

August 29

  • Kindergarten, 5:00-5:45pm
  • 1st & 5th Grades, 5:30-6:15pm
  • 3rd Grade, 6:00-6:45pm

August 30

  • 2nd & 6th Grades, 5:00-5:45pm
  • 4th Grade, 5:30-6:15pm

Tdap Vaccine - Rising 6th Graders

A reminder to the rising 6th grade families - Please submit your child’s Tdap vaccine record if you have not already done so.  It can be a copy of your child’s immunization record, or a note on letterhead from your healthcare provider listing the date, month and year of the most recent Tdap booster.  

Please note: Sixth graders cannot begin school in August without documentation of having had the Tdap booster.

The Oak Hill website has a wealth of information for new and returning families, including supply lists.  The Oak Hill website can be access here.


Calculators for 5th AAP and 6th Grade

Fifth grade AAP students and all 6th grade students will need a TI-30Xa or similar scientific calculator for math. This is in addition to the other items on the school supply list.  These calculators will not be sold at school but can be found at Target, Walmart, Amazon, and other stores where school supplies are sold.  The price is about $9.00.

Health Room Open

The Health Room will be open on Monday, August 27 from 9-10:30am for parents to drop off student medications.  Our new Health Room Aid, Juliana Rampersad, will be at Oak Hill to accept the medications.  


Service Learning Hours

Do your middle and high school students need service hours?  Sign up here to help Oak Hill Teachers at the beginning of the year.  Teachers will have access to your email/phone number and will contact you if they need help.


Community Flyers

Twice a year we give non-profit groups the opportunity to send paper flyers home with students.  The Fall date is September 26th and the Spring date is April 10th. These flyers must relate to the schools’ primary function, the education of students.  If your group wishes to distribute a flyer, the following disclaimer must be printed on the flyers, “These materials are neither sponsored nor endorsed by the Fairfax County School Board, the Superintendent, or Oak Hill Elementary School”.  Flyers must be delivered to the school, in 35 groups of 30, by Monday, September 24th for the fall date and Monday, April 8th, for the spring date.
