Principal's Message - 8/13/18

Stone MS

Dear Stone Families:

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2018-19 school year at Ormond Stone Middle School. Our staff is looking forward to welcoming our new seventh grade families and our returning eighth grade students back to classes on Tuesday, August 28, 2018.

The first of August, members of the administrative team and instructional coaches attended the FCPS Leadership Conference, where Pedro Noguera, author of “Excellence Through Equity”, was invited back again this year share his insight on committing to equity. He shared the Five Essential Ingredients for School Improvement:

  1. Coherent system to guide instruction
  2. Develop the professional capacity of staff
  3. Strong ties to parent community
  4. Student centered learning climate: collective efficacy
  5. Shared leadership to drive change

When reflecting on his keynote, I am very proud of the work we have been doing and what we have been able to accomplish over the past six years at Stone Middle School. However, I do think we have room to grow in the area of parent involvement.  If we are going to continue to improve as a school, your support and involvement is essential.

Here are just a few examples of how to get involved today!

  • Volunteer Throughout the Year
  • Stay In Touch and In The Know Sign up for the PTSA newsletter
  • Join the PTSA

I am looking forward to working with you and your families this year and if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. I hope to see you soon!

Amielia Mitchell
