Dear Greenbriar West Families,
Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year at Greenbriar West Elementary School! As you begin to prepare your family for the start of the school year on Tuesday, August 28, I wanted to share some important information with you about upcoming GBW events and information:
GBW Web Site – Supply lists and other relevant information are posted on the Greenbriar West web page at: http://www2.fcps.edu/GreenbriarWestES/. Our website is a great source of information throughout the year.
Daily Schedule – Our school hours are from 9:20-4:05, Monday through Friday.
Transportation and Teacher Assignments – A digital communication via our Keep in Touch system informing parents of their child's teacher will be sent by Wednesday, August 22. Bus route information from FCPS will be sent to parents by the end of the day on Friday, August 24.
Rising 6th Graders – Please submit your child’s Tdap shot immunization record prior to August 28, the first day of school. Please note that if we do not have it, your child will not be able to start school on August 28. Please call registrar Patty Li at 703-633-6700 if you have any questions about this mandatory requirement.
Kindergarten Pandas & Popsicles – This special social event for our new kindergarten students and their parents will be held on Friday, August 17 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the Panda Park playground (near front of school). Our kindergarten teachers will be here to visit with students and their families.
Open House –
Please plan to attend our Open House on Thursday, August 23. At the Open
House, you are welcome to visit your child’s new classroom, meet the teacher,
and join the PTA! The Open House schedule is as follows:
· Grades
K-6 last names A-L 1:00-1:45 p.m.
· Grades
K-6 last names M-Z 2:00-2:45 p.m.
Also available during Open House:
If you pre-ordered a School Supply Pack, it will be located in your child’s new classroom along with the GBW Back-to-School folder and other important forms that need to be returned to school. Please take the time to read the folder, as it is full of helpful information regarding attendance, transportation, school lunches, health room expectations, and other information.
Our Food Service Manager will be available in the cafeteria if you would like to add money to your child’s lunch account. Breakfast for elementary students is $1.75; lunch with milk is $3.00; milk is $.60.
The health room will be open for parents to
drop off medications.
If you plan to drive your children to school, parents may complete a Kiss and Ride form and receive a car number to be used during school dismissal. Please see Mr. Crede or Mr. Flynn during Open House for the form.
Student Safety Patrols can meet with PE teachers Mr. Crede or Mr. Flynn to pick up their patrol belts and assignments for the school year. Also, any students interested in becoming a patrol should see the PE teachers during Open House.
PTA representatives will be available to enlist you as a volunteer and/or to register you as a member. The PTA is a vital component of the success of GBW, and we encourage you to join!
First Day of School – The first day of school is Tuesday, August 28. Our Kiss ‘n Ride entrance opens at 8:50 a.m. PLEASE do not let your child be tardy. If you are driving your child to school, please plan to arrive at GBW no later than 9:05 a.m. Your children need time to get to their classrooms to unpack, begin morning work, and prepare for their day. School officially begins at 9:20 a.m. when the tardy bell rings.
Back-to-School Nights – Plan to attend this important event to learn about your child’s classroom routines and the grade level curriculum. This event is for Parents Only. Parents will have the opportunity to visit with our specialists (PE, Music, Art, Counselors, ESOL, Band, Strings, etc.) to hear information about their programs.
