Vienna Elementary School Boundary Update

Sent on behalf of Douglas A. Tyson, Assistant Superintendent, Region 1

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Staff:

I want to provide you an update on the current space at Vienna Elementary School and plans for next school year.

FCPS is committed to ensuring that all elementary class sizes remain within the class size caps determined by the School Board (28 for kindergarten; 29 for other grades).

At this time, based on current enrollment projections for the fall, Vienna ES is not planning to receive additional staffing for the 2018-19 school year. As a result, it will not be necessary for FCPS to occupy additional School Age Child Care (SACC) rooms for the upcoming school year.

However, if this should change due to an increase in enrollment and Vienna ES would require additional staffing, then FCPS would consider utilizing one or both SACC rooms for classroom space. FCPS staff have already met with staff from SACC and they are preparing to have both the cafeteria and gymnasium approved for use in case there is a need. There is no need to change the school boundary for 2018-19 school year.

It is likely that we will continue to have a community conversation about the potential for future boundary plans in response to the population trends in the Town of Vienna. We will keep you updated.

Have a great summer and we look forward to seeing you in August.

Sincerely,

Douglas A. Tyson

Assistant Superintendent, Region 1
