Join us for Summer Library Hours:
Mondays from 1:00 - 3:00 PM
Story and Craft time beginning at 1:30 PM
In order to continue to promote reading for all of our students and to remain connected to school during the summer weeks, Mrs. Valentine, our wonderful librarian, has agreed to open our library every Monday afternoon from 1:00 - 3:00 PM. Any Fairview student, including rising kindergarten students, may visit our library with an adult on a Monday afternoon, hear a story read aloud by a guest reader, engage in an activity pertaining to the story (arts and craft or technology based), and check out books. Students are welcome to come just to check out books any time during the 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM time frame.
The story time, which is geared towards students in rising grades K-3, will begin at 1:30 and will last 30 - 45 minutes. Students of all ages must be accompanied by an adult at all times and must be a current Fairview student.

I-Ready Math and Reading Lessons Available In July |
Students who practice math and reading skills during the summer months, even just 30 minutes twice weekly, stand a far better chance of maintaining those skills once school resumes in late August. I-Ready math and reading lessons are easy ways for students to hold onto the important learning they did this past year. Students can use their regular User IDs and passwords to log into I-Ready from home.
Typing Games Help Students Become Proficient at Keyboarding
Many families have requested information about typing programs that their children would enjoy doing over the summer. If time permits, please encourage your child to practice typing skills 5-10 minutes at least 5 times per week. After 6 weeks of these short daily practices, your child will likely be able to type faster than he/she can print with pen or pencil. The ability to write/type fluently allows writers to focus more on content and less on how to form letters (handwriting) or where to find the keys (typing) and ultimately communicate with ease in a written format.
The following are links to three different typing programs that are available on the web. Check them out for your child, and encourage him/her to try them out for 10 minutes several days per week this summer.

During the summer children are at risk for forgetting skills and valuable learning that they had mastered during the school year. One of the most important things that all children can do during the summer to avoid losing their newly gained reading level is to READ every day.
In order to promote reading during the summer, Fairview is teaming up with Fairfax County Public Libraries for their summer reading program. Fairview students who read the required number of books based on their grade level will be invited to participate in a Game Party during the second week of school. All forms, whether submitted in paper form or with the use of the above listed link to a Google Form, must be submitted by Wednesday, August 29 to receive credit.
