You may have heard me say on more than one occasion that it is the people that make the difference at FHES, which is why I am excited to announce our incoming staff for the new year! As always, we worked tirelessly to recruit the best candidates for our students and families. Please help me welcome the following staff to FHES! -Scott

Kevin Curtis, 3rd grade - Mr. Curtis served as our 3rd grade AAP long-term substitute during the 17-18 school year from December until the end of the year.

Lisa Bliss, 5th grade AAP - Ms. Bliss taught at Floris ES in FCPS for several years, including AAP, before teaching in the private sector for two years.

Jennifer Tran, 5th grade - Ms. Tran is transferring from Canterbury Woods ES in FCPS where she taught 5th and 3rd grade since 2012.

Linda Oh, 5th grade - Mrs. Oh served as our 5th grade long-term substitute during the 17-18 school year.

Madiha Siddiqui, 6th grade - Ms. Siddiqui is transferring from Camelot ES in FCPS where she taught 6th grade since 2013.

Brett Edwards, music - Mr. Edwards is relocating from California where he taught elementary music. Prior to CA, he was a school Director of Music in Richmond, VA.

Tim Scesney, School-based Technology Specialist (SBTS) - Serving at Vienna ES for his entire career as a teacher and SBTS, Mr. Scesney is transferring to FHES.

Emily Angle, Math Specialist - Ms. Angle will transition from the classroom to our new Math Specialist position. In this leadership role, she will support math instruction in all grades by planning with teams, co-teaching, modeling for teachers, facilitating professional development and teaching small groups of students.

Barbara Jackson will transition from 1st grade back to 2nd grade where she previously taught.

Caitlin Wilson will transition from 6th grade to 2nd grade.

Jessica Curran will transition from 5th grade to 3rd grade, AAP.

Stacy Finklestein will be returning to 6th grade after a 1 year leave of absence as our AAP teacher.

Heather Steiner will transition from kindergarten to our Special Education Intellectual Disabilities program.

Franz Misch will continue at FHES as our Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, but in a part-time capacity. More to come on the evolution of our STEM program!

Carolyn Lowe will transition from Intellectual Disability teacher to Preschool Special Education instructional assistant.

Mylissa Hoover will transition from assistant in our Intellectual Disability program to Special Education instructional assistant.

Barbara Izquierdo will transition from Preschool Special Education assistant to Special Education instructional assistant.
The FHES family will add two new members this summer as Marissa Stewart, 3rd grade, and Maddie Schmidt, 1st grade, will both embrace motherhood! Mrs. Stewart and Mrs. Schmidt will be on maternity leave to begin the year. We will ensure high quality substitutes until their return, which is projected to be late October/early November.

This summer, Freedom Hill will launch it’s very first bookmobile!.
Well over a thousand books have been collected for FHES students and students
can expect to see everything from board books and beautiful picture books to
Magic Tree House, Harry Potter and Divergent in our collection.
Come see us on July
10th, July 24th, Aug 7th and Aug 14th:
- 10:30-11:30am
at the intersection of Los Pueblos and Pimmit Run streets in
Falls Church
- 12:00-1:00pm
at Freedom Hill on the basketball court
We’ll have a small treat for everyone and
welcome volunteers to help load/unload boxes of books and help children find
what they need for all or part of our bookmobile time. Please contact
