A Fond Farewell

June 18, 2018

Dear Franklin Sherman Community,

It is the time of year that we are focused on endings and beginnings.  We are ending the school year and looking forward to the beginning of summer.  Some endings are much harder for us, especially when they involve saying goodbye to some of our wonderful Franklin Sherman staff members.  It is with mixed feelings of sadness and affection that we bid a fond farewell to the following Franklin Sherman staff members.

Shannon Wright, kindergarten teacher, will be moving back to her home in Pennsylvania to be closer to family.  She will be teaching first grade next year at her new school.

Ali Smith, first grade teacher, will be moving back to her home in New Jersey to be closer to her family as well.  She will be teaching second grade in her new school.

Shelby Wright, third grade teacher, is moving back to Pennsylvania with her sister and family.  She is excited to teach fourth grade at her new school next year.

Kathryn Lohr, fourth grade teacher, will be transferring from Franklin Sherman Elementary School to add to her teaching experience as she teaches sixth grade next year at Graham Road ES.

Krystal Long, sixth grade teacher, is transferring to Clearview ES in Reston to eliminate her daily commute and gain more time with her family.

Jill Scharl, counselor, was selected for a counseling leadership cohort for next year.  She will be transferring to Longfellow MS to expand her experiences as a school counselor.

Greg Parent, special education teacher, will be moving to Indonesia with his wife who is employed through the Peace Corp.

Our preschool program has had declining enrollment for the past few years.  FCPS has moved this program to a new school for next year, and so we must also wish Anne Buttarazzi, Leila Shirazi, and Ivana Ortega all the best as they open a new program at Terraset ES next year.

Goodbyes are not forever.

Goodbyes are not the end.

They simply mean I’ll miss you

Until we meet again!
