Summer Activity : Add to our Positivity Patch

Thank you to our Girl Scout Troop 2406 for installing the Positivity Patch to our entrance at door 8.  If you are looking for a rainy day activity, consider making a rock to add to our patch.  Think back to the positivity project we learned about this year, and see what inspiration you can create.

Summer Reading

Summer Reading is here! Relax with a good book and enjoy your summer.

Our students have worked so hard this year and have accomplished so much in reading. They have read independently, in partnerships, and with book clubs, etc.  We want to encourage our students to continue to read as much as they can this summer. Feel free to use the OHES Reading, Writing and Fitness Program, the Fairfax County Public Library program (offered at all Libraries) or just continue to read for pleasure!

Forms for the OHES program went home with students on the last day, but can also be downloaded. Participation is completely optional.

Summer Hours

The office will be open 9:00am-1:00pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  Ms. Tuttle is available via email all summer.   The office will be closed on July 4th for the holiday.  If the office is not open, please leave a message and we will get back to you.

Medicine Is Not Candy!

Do you some medicines look like candy? Keep students safe by practicing a few simple medication safety rules:

  1. Talk to your kids about medication safety. Don't confuse kids by comparing medicine to candy.
  2. Keep all medicines in a secure location – up, away and out of sight.
  3. Close medicine caps tightly after each use and buy medicines in child-resistant packages when you can. Remember, child-resistant does not mean child-proof and some children will still be able to open the cap.
  4. Only use the dosing device that comes with the medicine.
  5. Put medicines back after every use.
  6. Talk to older relatives and caregivers about being extra careful with their medications when children are around.
  7. Be alert to visitors' medicines as they may not consider safety precautions.
