Principal's Message:
It is hard to believe that we have reached the last week of school! As this week comes to a close I will have had the privilege of serving as Oakton's principal for the past two months. What a time to have joined the Oakton Cougars! I have had the amazing experience of seeing some outstanding student presentations in the classrooms, witnessed the incredible talent within Performing Arts, and stood sideline to see our student athletes finding amazing success. I have attended a variety of end-of-year banquets including Robotics and Debate and had the chance to sit down and talk with the leadership class. All the while, I have had the opportunity to meet many parents and community members. Thank you all for the very warm welcome and coming to me to share your experiences.
Very shortly after the students leave we will fully begin the renovation project. As you may have noticed over the past few weeks, the contractors have been busy putting up new fences, cutting down trees, and more. Throughout the summer I will send updates. Please know that the Main Office will move during the summer. Once we have an official date that the office will be moved I will communicate that with the community. Despite the construction, you will always be able to access Student Services and the Main Office throughout the summer. We still do not have an accurate accounting on the number of parking spots for our students for next school year. The number of spots will depend largely on the amount of construction that is completed over the summer. At this time I can share that it will be limited to seniors only and will be done based off of a lottery system. Once we have the details needed from the construction company, then we will fully communicate our plans for parking.
I am looking forward to a summer of reflection as we solidify plans for the 2018-2019 school year. I hope you all have a restful and relaxing summer break and we look forward to welcoming all the students back in August.
Sincerely,
Jamie Lane
Principal, Oakton High School

End of the Year Medication Pick-up
The school health room is reminding parents and
guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no
later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school, June 15th.
Medication left in the health room after that time will be discarded. It is
FCPS policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian.
Medication cannot be sent home with your student. However, with parent or
guardian permission, a high school student may transport over-the-counter
medications to and from the school health room. If you have any
questions, please contact your school health room aide, Ms. Tondra Beckman, or the public health nurse, Ms. Tracey Paterno-Hardy, at

Highlights:
What an amazing week for the Oakton Cougars! Last week alone we had several teams going deep into state tournaments including Boys and Girls Tennis, Boy's Soccer, and Boy's Lacrosse. Boys and Girls Tennis made it to the State Semi-Final round. Boy's Soccer ended their season as the State Runner-Up on Saturday Evening. Earlier that day, Boy's Lacrosse secured the Virginia 6A State Championship when they beat Robinson 11-10 in an amazing come from behind win!
We also had several members of Oakton's Choir invited to sing back-up for Barry Manilow at Wolf Trap on Friday and Saturday evening. The weekend was completed with the Cappies on Sunday evening at the Kennedy Center. Oakton students were nominated for 16 award categories and had the great opportunity to perform one of their songs from the Titanic production.
Of course, we also had an incredible graduation ceremony to send off the Class of 2018! It is always sad to say goodbye to our students, but we are so excited for all the future has in store for them. We wish them all the best of luck and look forward to hearing about all the great things they accomplish in years to come.
