Floris Friday Message

Musical
Congratulations 6th grade students for the wonderful performances of the musical “Willy Wonka Kids.”

Dear Families,

Here we are at the beginning of June, and things keep trucking along - literally, as kindergarteners enjoyed their annual Big Truck Day on Thursday.  We were very excited to meet the visitors who shared their big trucks and careers with our youngest learners. Once again, the highlight of the event was the landing of a police helicopter on our field in back! Students (and staff) were in awe at its landing and take-off! A huge thank you goes out to parent chair Zaya Kuykendall-Bowen who coordinated this popular event, as well as kindergarten room parents who helped.

This week we celebrated the many talents of our 6th graders with four performances of “Willy Wonka Kids.” Students not only sang and danced, but they ran the lights, the sound, built the sets and created costumes with the help of our astute music teachers, Mrs. Fox and Mrs. Murphy, and our 6th grade teachers. The talent of our staff and students is absolutely exceptional!  Congratulations to all who participated!

We wish Mrs. Swarts and Mrs. Gan all the best as they continue their professional journey next school year.

Finally, we wish our teacher Michelle Swarts and our instructional assistant Siewfah Gan all the best as they both embark on new adventures in middle school next year.  Mrs. Swarts, our wonderful special education teacher, will be at Carson Middle School, supporting older students as a special education teacher. She has been at Floris for 5 years.

Siewfah Gan is in a special education cohort and will be teaching 7th grade math next year as a special education teacher.  Mrs. Gan has been instrumental in providing intervention support to our students needing evidence based programs.  We wish them both all the best – they will truly be missed!
