Ms.
Katy Richman has been named the new principal of Woodburn
Elementary School. Her official start date will be July 2, 2018.
Ms.
Richman is currently the assistant principal at Parklawn Elementary School
where she has been a leader since 2016. Prior to her leadership role at
Parklawn ES, she served as an assistant principal at Hybla Valley Elementary
from 2014-2016. Ms. Richman has also served the school system as a LEAD
Fairfax Intern; she worked at Cunningham Park ES and London Towne ES while in
that capacity. Her instructional experience includes working as a 4th
and 5th grade teacher at Belvedere ES. Prior to becoming part
of the FCPS work force, Ms. Richman spent two years in South Africa as an
educational resource volunteer for the Peace Corps.
Ms.
Richman has had an abundance of experience supporting diverse populations and
communities and has a deep understanding of Title 1 schools and their
needs. She is committed to leveraging a high level of communication with
the staff and community in an effort to increase engagement. Clarity and
doing what is in the best interest of the students are key components to Ms.
Richman’s leadership style. She understands that a positive climate is
fostered from the top down and sees the staff, administration, and the
community as one team that will work together to ensure all students
succeed. It is also important to note that Woodburn holds a special place
in Katy’s heart due to the fact that she is a product of the Falls Church
Pyramid having graduated from Falls Church High School.
Ms.
Richman holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Boston
University and a Master’s in Educational Leadership and Administration from
George Washington University.
Progress reports will go home with students on the last day of school. We cannot send them home earlier. If your child will not be in school on the last day, you may pick up his/her progress report in the office.
If your child has medication in the health room, please be sure to pick it up before the last day of school on June 15. We are not allowed to send medication home with students.
