Second grade enjoyed their field trip to the National Zoo on Monday. Our GBW Pandas got to visit with the real pandas, Tian Tian, Mei Xiang and Bei Bei.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Students are beginning to get
excited as we inch closer and closer to the end of the school year! We
have completed SOL testing, so teachers and students are beginning to work
on end-of-year projects and activities.
Our final PTA meeting will be
on Monday, June 11 at 9:15 a.m., followed by our annual Field Day! We are
looking forward to loads of outdoor fun and activities.
Thank
you for your support and partnership! The days have been flying by, and we
are so proud of the students for all of their growth this year.
Dr. Granada

from the school year!
You will be given the opportunity to walk through the halls and marvel at writing pieces, art projects, published student books and ideas being taught in math, science and history!
Don’t forget to bring your smartphone or device as we will have QR codes displayed throughout the school. Each code will explain what is on display at each grade level.
We hope to see you there.

2017-18 Yearbooks
Note correction in
price for after-sales!
Pre-ordered yearbooks will be
distributed to students on Monday, June 11. If you did not
pre-order, a limited number of yearbooks will be on sale in the cafeteria
starting Tuesday, June 12, from 8:50 – 9:15 a.m. Yearbooks will be sold
on a first come, first served basis and will be on sale each morning until they
are sold out. The cost is $18. Checks (payable to GBW - PTA) or cash
will be accepted.
Next week, students in Grades 3-6 will need to return their laptop
for summer maintenance. Now is a good time to check with your child to make
sure they can locate their charger and their laptop sleeve. All three
pieces (laptop, charger, sleeve) will need to be turned in on their designated
turn-in day and any missing or unusable items will incur a replacement charge.
All students will receive a receipt showing either the amount owed or a
balance of zero.
Payment for any amount owed can be made online using MySchoolBucks until June
15. Payment after June 15 must be made by check payable to Greenbriar West
or GBW.

PTA Meeting
As we wrap up this school year,
your GBW PTA is already starting to plan for the upcoming school year.
Please join us at our final PTA meeting of the school year at 9:15 a.m. on Monday,
June 11. We will be electing the officers for next year's GBW PTA
Board. It will be a quick meeting so those that wish to volunteer
at Field Day will be able to leave in time to do so.
The board nominees are:
President: Nahla Gadalla
Vice President: Susan
Papula
Treasurer: Jill
Lewandowski
Secretary: Roli Points
Also, in addition to our Board,
we need many volunteers for all the activities and events the PTA does
throughout the year. Please consider volunteering to chair or co-chair
one of our committees or events. We start planning some of those
activities over the summer so please keep an eye out over the next few months
and into the beginning of the upcoming school year for more information about
those positions. Our PTA programs cannot happen without your support and
involvement. Your help is greatly appreciated.
As the school year comes to an end, the summer fun is about to begin! Join Food and Nutrition
Services all summer long for the free barbeque program, or F.E.E.D.S (Food for Every Child to
Eat During Summer). The program begins on June 18 and ends August 27. This USDA-funded
program is free for all children 18 years and under and only $2 for adults. Some sites will also
offer crafts, games, and other activities. For additional information please www.fcps.edu/feeds.
To find your closest summer meal site, text FOOD or COMIDA (for Spanish) to 877-877.
During the summer months, students are more likely to adopt
unhealthy behaviors. Encourage children to get at least 60
minutes of physical activity a day and limit screen time to 1-2
hours. Children should also stay hydrated during warmer months
with healthy beverage choices. Try adding flavor and fun to water
by adding sliced fruit or by choosing sparkling water to add
carbonation to beverages without the added sugar.

IOWA test, AND a 500 or better on the Math SOL test. Students who did not
meet this criteria, but who are interested in taking algebra should remember
they will have the opportunity to take Algebra in 8th grade.
Students who begin Algebra in 8th grade will progress to AP Calculus
AB or BC in high school.
