 CONGRATULATIONS TO ELLIOTT LEE!
Elliott Lee, 7th grader, represented LMS at the Scripps National Spelling Bee this week. He made it past Round 3, correctly spelling all of his words. After Round 3, the top 41 vocabulary test scores of the remaining spellers moved to the finals. Elliott's score was high enough for him to be on stage for the finalist announcements. Elliott had an amazing time and has thoroughly enjoyed the journey from the school spelling bee to the county to the nationals. A big thank you to you and everyone at LMS for your continuous support of Elliott in his character development and interest in learning.

 LMS DEBATE TEAM SUCCESSES
The LMS Debate Team just concluded the most successful month of competition in school history! City Champions! • Last Saturday, the team of Anjali Krishnan, Alyssa Gorbaneva and Ariana Elahi won the DC City Championship, individually finishing 5th, 11th and 16th, respectively! • The LMS Debate Team fielded four teams and finished 2nd in total wins and 3rd in winning percentage! Regional Tournament - Manhattan • On May 5, Anjali, Alyssa and Ariana also finished 20th at the Eastern Regional Tournament in Manhattan! • Anjali finished 13th individually and Alyssa finished 22nd! Special Recognition • All of our students worked extremely hard and contributed to our team’s success. • Of special note, Anjali, Alyssa and Ariana competed in all five tournaments, along with Yanni Aknine, Grace Kim, Zoe Li and Ben Woods. • Our team is uniquely indebted to Anjali, Alyssa, Ariana, Yanni and Naveen Patury for their hard work, their commitment, their sustained passion and their unprecedented leadership over the past two seasons. It has been a distinct honor and a pleasure to work with these students. • As always, our team is particularly indebted to the Nation’s Capital Debate League’s president, Mr. Mike Risen of Norwood School. • As a team, Anjali, Alyssa and Ariana completed the most successful season in school history! • Alyssa Gorbaneva leaves LMS as the most accomplished student in school history. In addition to receiving many individual trophies, she is only the second LMS student to win a First Place Speaker Award and she is the first student to win back-to-back city championships on two different teams!

NJHS APPLICATION DUE DATE
This is a reminder that all completed NJHS applications for school year 18-19 are due Monday, June 11 by 2:30 pm. All applications must be placed in an envelope and hand delivered to room 201 by the deadline.
LOCKER CLEANOUT
Locker organizers will be removed next week. Remind your 7th graders to bring their locker shelves home to use next year. 8th grade students can either save their organizer for a sibling or donate it to the PTA. Please ask your child to disassemble it gently. We can only resell shelves in good condition. To disassemble, take the top shelf off and then slide one side piece up. When the higher side piece is loose - probably at a 70 degree angle, not 45 degrees, all of the locker shelf pieces will just fall apart. The 7th grade clean out is on June 11th and 8th grade is June 12th, both during lancer time. All lockers must be completely empty by the last day of school. If you need to add my contact information, my email is LongfellowMSLockerShelves@gmail.com

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING STUDENTS TAKING SUMMER SCHOOL CLASSES OUTSIDE OF FCPS
• Earning Credit in Non-FCPS Courses In the Summer (July-August) Per Regulation 2408, students enrolled in FCPS are expected to earn standard credits from FCPS programs. The exceptions for courses completed during the summer are outlined below. Since participation in summer programs is elective and there is an associated cost, students are granted more flexibility in accessing non-FCPS programs. Standard credit for advanced academic courses may only be transferred if the advanced academic course is offered through FCPS summer programs. Middle school students may not take a mathematics course during the summer as their first high school level mathematics course. Students must submit all required forms to their school counselor for prior written approval before enrolling in the course: • IS-158 Request to Earn High School Credit from Programs Outside of Fairfax County Public Schools Please contact your child’s school counselor if you have additional questions.
