4th Annual WSES Game of Awesomeness
Dear Willow Springs Families,
We have so much to celebrate
this year! We are inspired by what our students and teachers achieve
on a daily basis, but we must always remember the amazing work of our dedicated
volunteers. Sharing their time and unique talents with us is truly
invaluable to our school. These volunteers bring their skills, inspiration,
vision, and a wealth of experience and leadership, and the impact that has on
our school is immeasurable. It’s hard to find the words to express our
sincere appreciation for all you do, but we truly thank you from the bottom of
our hearts.
Our students continue to
amaze us with their creativity, hard work, and enthusiastic approach to the
learning process. This week our 4th graders participated in their annual living wax museum. The students worked so hard on their presentations,
costumes, projects, and deliveries. The end result was nothing short
of amazing. And last night our musicians performed their Spring band
concert complete with pop songs and movie soundtracks. Truly music to the ears
of everyone who attended. To top everything off, today we had many of our
students competing in the annual Game of Awesomeness, a collaboration of
students from across grade levels and programs competing in a fun-filled
kickball game.
Our
5th grade students are in the final stages of their Global Awareness Technology
Project, as they are working on final edits and voice-overs to narrate their
presentations. We
take great pride in promoting technology skills for all our students, and
projects like these are an embodiment of what we strive to encourage in our 21st century learners.
The sixth grade service project has one more week to go;
please consider donating non-perishable food goods for the Western
Fairfax Christian Ministry (WFCM) food pantry.
Next week, we look forward to more culminating events as the year draws to a close. Our musicians will be performing concerts, we'll say farewell to our 6th graders, and our students will celebrate
their growth as they look forward to the challenges ahead.
We hope you and your family will take advantage of our 2018 WSES Summer Reading Challenge. We want to hear everyone say, "Bingo" when they return to school this August.
Enjoy the beautiful weekend, we will see you Monday.

15 WSES Educators Successfully Complete Blended Learning Digital Cohort
The 2017-18 WSES Blended Learning Cohort: (from left, back row) Ms. Lee, Mrs. Martin, Mrs. Willison, Ms. Stavros, Mrs. Green, Mrs. Nauman, Mrs. Mott, Mrs. Styles (front row) Mrs. Lennon, Mrs. Hamilton, Mrs. Carroll, Ms. Marshall, Ms. Mikesell, Mrs. Stough, Ms. Cannock
Several of our teachers applied and were accepted to participate in a 1:1 blended learning cohort last October. Through their consistent and dedicated efforts, everyone recently earned their literacy and fluency Modern Teacher certification. Our goal through this cohort was to explore physical and virtual learning environments that give teachers and students greater
control over the time, place, path, and pace of learning.
Through this opportunity, teachers completed more than 10 hours of online training, attended several face to face workshops, visited FCPSon elementary schools, facilitated community learning events, answered reflections, transformed their instruction, and this past Thursday morning, the outstanding work of these teachers continued as they led professional learning for our entire staff through a digital trade show.
Their leadership and guidance has been remarkable and impressive this year! We are inspired to have them lead the way in 2018-19!
