    Join us for our final Parent Resource Center (PRC) workshop for the 2017-18 school year.

    As parents in the digital age, being aware, alert, and involved in your children’s use of the internet is crucial.  What else can you do to keep your teenager safe on the internet? Join us for our workshop on Internet Safety for Parents on June 1, 2018, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Dunn Loring Center for Parent Services, 2334 Gallows Road, Dunn Loring, VA 22027, entrance 1, room 100.

    Highlights will include the top internet dangers for teens:

    • Adolescence and Social Media
    • Predators
    • Cyberbullying
    • Sexting
    • Data Theft
    • Malicious Software

    Rick Stegman, FCPS Educational Specialist, will present this very important workshop!

     

    The FCPS PRC provides resources, information, and consultations to support the success of all students, including those with learning challenges, special needs, and disabilities.         Behavior Intervention Services is offering the following Summer Academy Courses. Registration begins on June 5, 2018:

         

        Best Practices for Educating Students with High Functioning Autism.  The Office of Special Education Instruction is offering this one-credit Academy course for all educators working with high-functioning students on the autism spectrum. The course of study includes an overview of Autism Spectrum Disorder (High-Functioning Autism) including characteristics, academic and instructional supports, social skills instruction, and behavior management. This course supports: (1) Create a Student-Centered Learning Environment, (2) Plan and Teach for Student Learning, (3) Assess Student Learning--as defined in the FCPS Best Practices for Teaching and Learning Framework. This course is open to educators serving students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12, and will take place on July 25 and 26, 2018, at Willow Oaks Center from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. To register, please login to MyPLT and search for course #AC-2274.  For more information, please call Behavior Intervention Services at 571-423-4106.   

         

         

        Mandt Academy will take place on July 9 and 10, 2018, at Willow Oaks Center and July 23 and 24, 2018, at Virginia Hills Center from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. These trainings provide participants with prevention, pre-crisis, crisis management, and de-escalation intervention strategies.  The Mandt System is a systematic training program that builds on skill development through a process of gradual and graded alternatives for de-escalating and assisting students using a combination of interpersonal communication skills, conflict resolution strategies, and physical interaction techniques.  The goal of the Mandt System is to minimize the potential for verbal and physical aggression through proactive approaches to problematic behavior.  Participants gain a fundamental understanding of the crisis cycle, strategies to respond with the least amount of external management necessary in all situations, and the skills that allow safe and respectful intervention when needed.  To register, please login to MyPLT and search for course #AC-1547.  For more information, please call Behavior Intervention Services at 571-423-4106.   

         

        1-2-3 Magic and Positive Behavior Support.  This course is designed to teach pre-school and elementary staff members to design positive behavior supports including specific Tier 1, 2, and 3 interventions. Background information and literature is reviewed and practical techniques are shared and practiced. Participants learn to use the 1-2-3 Magic Program and other behavior management strategies and interventions. This course supports: (1) create a Student-Centered Learning Environment as defined in the FCPS Best Practices for Teaching and Learning Framework and will take place on June 25, 26 and 27, 2018, at Gatehouse Administration Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. To register, please login to MyPLT and search for course #AC-3353.  For more information, please call Behavior Intervention Services at 571-423-4106.
