CES Family Bulletin #37

Weekly Photos

Dear CES,

Wow, it is hard to believe that it is already June 1 and school ends in two weeks! We have several end of the year events over the next two weeks. We hope you find time to come and celebrate the success and growth of our students. Throughout the year the CES students have put forth amazing amounts of energy focused on improving their academic and social skills. When you come please do not forget your driver's license to check-in.

On Thursday, May 31st, 5 CES 5th Graders represented our school at the Inaugural EcoRise Show Case, at the Green Building in Washington, DC.  The CES Green Team wrote a grant and were awarded $2160.00 for their project entitled: Revamping Our Recycling at CES.

The students presented a video they made for staff to teach about how to recycle at school. They also spoke to about 100 people, sharing why recycling is important, where CES is with their recycling, and what they proposed we should change to make our efforts more effective. All decisions were made based on data the students collected, and observations made from being in the cafeteria.  Way to go CES Green Team!!!  Can’t wait to see your plan in action!

End of Year Medication Reminder

The school health room reminds parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school.  Medication left in the health room after that time will be discarded.  It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian.  Medication cannot be sent home with your student.

If your child will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, your existing long-term medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program.  Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).

If you have any questions, please contact the health room at 703.502.3510, or your school public health nurse, Cindy McKee, RN, at 202.578.3745.

Potomac Nationals Reading Program Bookmark

Today, your student is should have brought home a bookmark provided by the Potomac Nationals Baseball team for their annual Reading Program.  An assembly is being held next week that will explain this program to our students, but we wanted to give our students a head start on their reading to get 2 free tickets to the P-Nats game on June 15th.

Students need to read 4 books (you can include books that have been read during this school year), complete the back of the bookmark and turn it in to their teacher by June 8th.  The student will then receive 2 free tickets to the Potomac Nationals game on Friday, June 15th and sit with their CES friends and teachers.  The game starts at 7:05pm and the gates open at 6pm.  For more information about the Potomac Nationals and the game on June 15th you can go to potomacnationals.com.

We hope your student will participate in this annual event that is fun for the whole family and a great way to celebrate the end of our school year together.
