Robinson Student Ram Blast, Week of June 4

STUDENT RAM BLAST

Providing students and parents with important updates and reports of events and happenings in the middle school.

Getting to know Robinson . . .

"F" is for final edition and a fond farewell..... from  Sharon Newcome

This is the final edition of the Student Ramblast  for school year 2017-2018! WOW RAMS!  What a great year we have had.

It is with mixed emotions that I write this fond farewell to the Robinson students, staff, parents and colleagues with whom I have had the pleasure to work with for the past 12 years.  Co-authoring this Friday afternoon newsflash with Mary Aunon has  helped us all stay on top of  the many awesome events and activities that middle school life has to offer.  After 31 years and  having worked in two different districts in two different secondary schools in the Commonwealth of Virginia, I will be retiring and  relocating to South Carolina with my husband.  Please know that Robinson Secondary will always hold a special place in my heart.   It is with such ram pride that I can say it has truly been a privilege and an honor to serve as a Middle School Subschool Principal.  The Robinson community is one of a kind.  A community where the staff (many of whom are RBSS alumni) , students and  parents hold their middle and high school  in such high regard.  We are fortunate to have so many dedicated staff members and administrators to support this large building where we strive to "keep it small" so that all students  can reach their utmost potential.

So, my dear "sev-vies"  and to ALL of my former greats (grade 8's), please know that the next time you hear a loud whistle, or give/see a high-five or enjoy a life saver candy, or hear a silly rhyme, that it is just a reminder to you as to how fond I am and will always be of my time at Robinson.  I will be thinking of you often.  Best wishes to all and enjoy your summer!

Yours in Ram Pride,  Sharon Newcome, SS 7 Principal.

8th Grade Day A Success!

Students in the class of 2022 enjoyed an afternoon of karaoke, improv, and carnival games followed by the annual student/faculty basketball game.

Thank you to the parent volunteers, teachers, coaches, and administrators for making this day so special.

Scroll down for details on the 8th grade dance on Wednesday, June 6.

dance

We hope your 8th grader will come and celebrate with his/her fellow Robinson 8th grade classmates on Wednesday, June 6 from 6-8pm in the Gold Cafeteria.

Only Robinson 8th graders may attend this end of the year celebration!  Students should be ready to put on their party/dance shoes, but students DO NOT need to purchase a formal gown or prom-like dress, a tuxedo or suit, flowers, corsages or a boutonniere, etc.  Dresses/outfits must be tasteful with no undergarments showing. No totally backless dresses (spaghetti straps and strapless are okay), no tube tops or midriffs or cleavage showing, please!  Skirts/dresses must be of an appropriate length!  Boys should wear slacks or dress pants (NO JEANS or SHORTS )  without exposed underwear and a collared shirts.  No t-shirts or shorts, please.    For this 8th grade end of the year celebration, …..Rams dress to impress!

There is no need or expectation for students to invite a “date” by a special or clever “proposal”  or for any student to have a “date”  to attend.  Actually, we don’t recommend adding any pressure to what we hope is a stress-free and an all-inclusive event.  This is a celebration for the whole grade level!

Please encourage your 8th grader to join us to take pictures, enjoy good food, music and other special activities to mark the end of their MS years.

Ticket Information!

Tickets are $10 and on sale now through My School Bucks.  Any student who wishes to purchase a ticket in person can do so during A/B lunches from May 30th to June 6th (cash only).  Absolutely no tickets will be sold at the door. Students with unpaid obligations will not be allowed to purchase a ticket or attend the dance until their obligations are paid! Ticket price includes all food and activities inside the event; no additional money is required.

If purchasing through My School Bucks, make sure to print out receipt and bring a copy to lunch to get a physical ticket.

Arrival and Departure:  Parents must drop-off and pick-up students at the middle school entrance #5 for this event.

Please email Robinson.middle.sga@gmail.com with any questions!

VA Star Donates Computers

Photo

Robinson Secondary School stared a new club this year that included both Middle School and High School students.  Students worked collaboratively with each other and staff sponsors to refurbish donated computers from Virginia Star.  Virginia Star or VA STAR is a student training and refurbishment program which has participating schools across the state of Virginia.  Currently there are 70 schools involved in the state of Virginia, across 40 school districts.  For more information about Virginia Star, visit their website. http://vastar.org/

Robinson Secondary School would like to thank the students who worked so hard on this project as well as their sponsors; Mrs. Brand, Mr. Portare and Mrs. Miller.  The club also received tech support from Robinson's Technology Support Specialists, Max Ruth and Derek Knizner.  Thanks as well to Mr. Eline, Mrs. Aunon and Mr. Drake.  Mr. Drake is the state coordinator for Virginia Star.

Counselors' Corner

Welcome to Counselors’ Corner:  an occasional tip sheet from the Robinson Middle School Office of Student Services

wow

Congratulations Dolores Malloy! You have been recognized as an employee who shows that FCPS Cares.

Mrs. Malloy has been a shining example of someone who supports students.

In this day and age, our children are faced with emotional stress and strain more intense than we ever could have imagined.  It seems like every other week we hear about a horrible and traumatic event -- a teen suicide, a school shooting, a tragic accident.  For many students, these causes depression, anxiety, and a fear that if they go to school they may not make it home that day.  Mrs. Malloy is doing a fantastic job helping those students overcome their fear and focus on what they need to.  She provides supports and strategies for them to be able to feel safe and know that she truly has their back.  She is not only helping the students be academically successful, she is truly helping them become successful at navigating these very complicated social and emotional waters.  She is a God-send and FCPS is beyond fortunate to have her working with our children.
