Rocky Run MS News and Updates: 06/01/18

Principal's Note

Dear Rocky Run Families:

It has been a week full of good things at Rocky Run including:

  • Two fantastic concerts this week.  Congratulations to our Orchestras and Choral groups and thank you to Mr Matthie, Ms. Wilcox and Mrs. Christman for their hard work and dedication to our students.
  • Thank you to our English Department for sponsoring our annual Poetry Slam.  Congratulations to all of our finalists and winners who were recognized through lunches today.

Our staff is busily preparing for closing of school activities including Eyewitness To History Day, Team Awards Presentations and Team Field Days.  Field Days will take place at Greenbriar Park and a field trip permission slip is required.  Please be sure to check with your student about details.  There are many opportunities to volunteer and support these events.  Please look for announcements through News You Choose. We appreciate your help.

I welcome your feedback, suggestions, and questions.  Please feel free to reach out to me at any time.  I hope to see you at Rocky Run very soon!

 Sincerely,

Amy Goodloe, Ed.D.

Student Services

Rams Rally and 7th Grade Orientation

As we plan for the closing of this school year, we are also making plans for the opening of next school year.  Parents, please be advised that our originally scheduled August dates for Ram Rally have been changed due to religious observances at that time.  We will finalize updated events and post that information soon.

Student Intention Forms

Moving this summer?  If your family plans include relocation, please let us know.  Right now we are saving a seat for your child for next year.  But if you plan to move, will you notify us by completing this form and send it to your child’s counselor before the end of this school year, or as soon as you know. https://rockyrunms.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/media/inline-files/Student%20Intention_0.pdf

Course selections for next year.

At this time, parents of rising 8th graders are able to see their student’s course selections in Parent Vue.  We will mail a copy of the course selections to parents of rising 7th graders.  Parents are reminded that June 30 is the deadline to change course requests for next year.  Please email your child’s counselor this year to make changes.

Math placements for rising 7th graders interested in taking Algebra in 7th grade will be finalized in June, after all SOL scores are complete.  Students who meet the qualifications for Algebra in 7th grade (91% IOWA math score, and 500 on the math SOL) will be placed in Algebra 1 and parents will be notified by mail with an opportunity to opt out if they choose.

View the digital copy of the agenda from our event that was held last night at RRMS. This includes links to presentations and resources.

Library Book Returns

Parents, please check with your student to see if he/she has any overdue library books. More than 300 of our students have at least one overdue library book right now! The due date is stamped at the back of the book and students with overdues receive weekly emails through their fcpsschools account. All books need to be returned to the library by Friday, June 1. Students with books still on their account by Friday, June 8, will be unable to receive their yearbook on that date. Contact Ms. Grover ragrover@fcps.edu with any questions.

FCPSOn Device Collection

We will be collecting FCPSOn devices during Health & PE classes on June 11 and June 12. If your student is attending Field Day on those dates, they may turn in their laptop during Health & PE on the 13th or 14th.

You may review the device flyer that was handed out during distribution. Payment for missing parts may be done through MySchoolBucks.

Note: we are not collecting or charging for the laptop sleeves.

Westfield High School Boosters
