Participants in FCPS' 13th Accelerated Certification Cohort (ACC) are poised for continued success. The ACC is managed in collaboration with the University of Virginia and provides qualified candidates the
opportunity to earn their PreK-12 Administrative Endorsement over the course of
one year at a reduced cost.
The Fairfax County School Board has adopted FCPS' FY 2019 Approved Budget of $2.9 billion that includes an additional $53.1 million as part of a multi-year plan to enhance teacher salaries, and $43.9 million for a step increase for all eligible employees.
“This budget was made possible because of cooperation between the School Board and the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors,” said Janie Strauss, Fairfax County School Board chair. “Our commitment to provide competitive salaries for teachers was at the forefront of our budget request this year. Both Boards understood the critical need to make teacher pay more competitive. This year’s budget will enable us to offer more competitive salaries for our teachers while making it possible for us to retain and recruit the best possible teachers for our students.” Read the news release.

Meet Jamie Lane, the new principal at Oakton HS. Jamie's goals include ensuring that the school “continues to be a place where students are benefiting from innovative teaching practices that are preparing them for their future.” In addition, she "wants every student to learn and achieve at high levels while
being highly engaged in their learning."
Over the past 12 years, Jamie has worked as a teacher leader and assistant principal in Region 5 and Region 2 schools. She began her career as a social studies teacher at Westfield HS, where she also served as a Virginia history collaborative team leader. Before joining the Oakton team, Jamie was an assistant principal at McLean HS. In addition, she supervised the Science, Special Education (CAT
B), Social Studies, and Fine Arts Departments. Jamie also worked alongside
teacher leaders on collaborative teams that have resulted in annual increases in Advanced Placement scores. Other highlights of Jamie's time at McLean include strengthening their teacher mentoring program, creating improved financial
procedures and guidelines for the performing arts program, and implementing a
project-based learning committee to increase student engagement.
Jamie received her bachelor of science in secondary education
from the Pennsylvania State University and a master’s of education in
educational leadership from George Mason University. Find out more about Jamie and her plans for Oakton HS.
