WAKEFIELD FOREST ES Weekly Message

First Grade Fishing
The first grade started their Measurement Fair last week fishing in a pond and measuring their catches to see if they were keepers!

Gardening Club
We would like to thank parents Melissa Aune and Laura DeVito for creating and leading the very first WFES Garden Club that ended last Friday.  The students enjoyed the planting process as well as watching their hard work come to fruition in a successful outdoor garden (the rain helped, too!).  Many of the students expanded their palates as a result of the healthy snacks they enjoyed each week, featuring varieties of the kind of produce we are growing in our WFES garden.

Medication Pick-up
All medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than dismissal time on June 15, 2018. Medication left in the health room after that time will be discarded.

It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. If you have any questions, please contact the School Health Aide Dana Wade or Public Health Nurse Jeanine St. Lawrence at 703-503-2310.

Birthday Treat Policy
We would like to remind parents of Wakefield Forest’s non-edible birthday treat policy. This decision was based on feedback from parents, teachers and administrators. As an educational setting, we strive to encourage healthful ways of living, and prioritize the safety of our students with food allergies.

Students may celebrate their birthday in one of the following ways:
• Families can arrange with the teacher to donate a book or board game to the classroom.
• Families can bring in one non-edible treat for each classmate such as a pencil, bookmark or sticker. Please note, goodie bags, toys and balloons are not allowed.

Lost and Found
Please encourage your children to check the Lost and Found in the cafeteria if they are missing any items: the students walk by it every day on their way in to lunch!  Also, parents are encouraged to search the Lost and Found themselves when they are here at the school for any reason.  We would really like to see the items returned to their rightful owners!  All unclaimed Lost and Found items will be donated to charity after the last day of school, Friday, June 15.
