planning ahead

Planning Ahead: 2018-19 School Year Calendar

Please be sure to consult the school calendar for next year as you make summer and holiday plans. If you are planning ahead for the next school year, check out the 2018-19 school year calendar online. Notable dates include the first day of school, August 28; Thanksgiving break, November 21-23; Winter break, December 24, 2018-January 4, 2019; Spring Break, April 15-19, 2019; and the last day of school, June 13, 2019. See the 2018-19 school year calendar.

Attendance is a new accountability standard for all schools. One of the nine areas schools will be assessed on is chronic absenteeism. A student is considered chronically absent if they miss 10 percent or more of the school year, regardless of reason (exception made for students receiving homebound instruction). Schools who do not meet chronic absenteeism benchmarks will be at risk for a lower accreditation rating.

FCPS has posted resources for parents around attendance available at https://www.fcps.edu/attendance

mental health

Chantilly Pyramid Launching Mental Health Google Site

Mental health has been  a “hot button” topic in our country over the past few months.  School counselors are excited to share a new mental health resource site for our Chantilly community.  As elementary, middle, and high school counselors continue to work with families in each school, we felt it necessary to share similar information and resources with everyone in grades K through 12.  The Chantilly Pyramid’s comprehensive Google site link can be found here https://sites.google.com/view/chantillycounselorsresources/home.  Feel free to access the site on your own.  If you have specific questions or needs, contact your child’s school counselor directly.
