Academics/Testing:

Attendance Calls During AP, IB and Online SOL Testing

During AP, IB and SOL testing at high schools from Wednesday, May 2, 2018 through Friday, June 8, 2018 the morning attendance telephone calls, texts and e-mails to home for reporting a student’s absence will not occur. This temporary suspension reflects the fact that students are often in designated testing sites within the school during the normal attendance-taking time. The evening attendance telephone calls and e-mails will still remain in place.

Graduation - June 8, 9:30am

Graduation is set for Friday June 8 at 9:30am at EagleBank Arena.  Due to the time of our graduation ceremony school will be closed on that day for all students.  We are excited to honor our senior class and all of their accomplishments.

Academy Classes/Shuttles

Due to the testing window, there are several days in the coming weeks where the period order will be shifted as a result of SOL and Senior Final Exams.  This will impact students who are enrolled in FCPS Academy Courses.  The days that Academy students will be impacted are: May 21-24, May 30-June 1.

The last day for Academy shuttles will be June 1st. Prior to that date, students are encouraged to attend their Academy courses at their designated time, unless they have an SOL, or AP Exam slated during that time. When a student is at Oakton and do not have a scheduled class due to the change in period order, they should go to the new library where they can complete work.

Beginning June 2nd, all Academy students should plan on being at Oakton and reporting to the new library when their Academy class was scheduled to meet. No student should unsupervised or should leave campus without following normal check-out procedures. Students should be communicating with both their Oakton and Academy teachers during this time if the schedule causes them to miss either.

End of the Year Medication Pick-up

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school, June 15th. Medication left in the health room after that time will be discarded. It is FCPS policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. However, with parent or guardian permission, a high school student may transport over-the-counter medications to and from the school health room.  If you have any questions, please contact your school health room aide, Ms. Tondra Beckman, or the public health nurse, Ms. Tracey Paterno-Hardy, at 703-319-2710.

Volunteer hours and x2vol

Volunteer hours for the Oakton Seal, the Fairfax County Cord and the Virginia Seal of Excellence MUST be entered into X2VOL by May 18. In addition, the Virginia Seal of Excellence requires a paper application to be completed by the student. The application can be found on the Social Studies web-site. (In lieu of recording the hours on the paper application indicate the hours have been recorded in X2VOL.) The only signatures the student is required to get are the parent and gov’t teacher. The deadline for the paper application AND the electronic hour entry is May 18. Questions and to submit paperwork, contact Mrs. Manilli (jrmanilli@fcps.edu) or Mrs. Lawver (hmlawver@fcps.edu).
