Resources for Talking about Season 2 of 13 Reasons Why
Season 2 of the Netflix program 13 Reasons Why began this weekend. Mental health and youth advocates are warning parents,
educators, and professionals that the content of the program, as well as
last year's 13 Reasons Why, Season 1, warrants discussion about
watching the program at all, watching with teens, and talking
afterwards.
Parents
should be aware that this season includes issues of gun violence,
substance abuse, and sexual assault in addition to suicide.
The Safe Community Coalition will post resources via (@safecommunitycoalitionmcleanVA) and Twitter
(@mcleanscc) as they appear, but here are some other resources:
Please continue to look out for each other and all of our kids and use 24/7 emergency resources if there is any question:
- Life Threatening, 911
- CrisisLink Regional Hotline, 703-527-4077, CrisisLink is a hotline for individuals in crisis or family/friends seeking guidance for how to help a loved one
- CrisisText, Text NEEDHELP to 85511
- Dominion Hospital Emergency, 703-536-2000
- Inova Emergency, 703-289-7560
- Mobile Crisis Unit, 1-844-627-4747
- National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, 1-800-273-TALK, 1-800-SUICIDE
- Merrifield Center Emergency, 703-573-5679, TTY dial 711. The Merrifield Center, of the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board, offers a range of clinical programming. Emergency Services, staffed 24 hours per day, seven days per week, works with people in psychiatric crisis who need immediate attention.
You
can also consider changing your Netflix passwords to help monitor
access.
Senior Dues – Can’t Remember Whether You’ve Paid?
No problem, email rlyates@fcps.edu and ask Renee Yates. Put “Senior Dues” in the subject line and “Have senior dues been paid for my student {insert student name} ?“ in the body of the email.
Please ask and do not pay twice. Processing reimbursements is time consuming for MHS staff. Thank you for your help.
Seniors and Parents of Seniors-
Check out “So You’re 18” on the PTSA Class of 2018 webpage
Click here to view the pamphlet from the Virginia State Bar which walks you through the privileges you gain and the legal responsibilities you incur when you turn 18 - including 22 topics ranging from voter registration and military service to contracts and credit. It is an excellent reference for young adults heading off to college or into employment.
Here's Your "Be in the Know" End of Year Schedule

End of Year Medication Pick Up
The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school, June 15th. Medication left in the health room after that time will be discarded. It is FCPS policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. However, with parent or guardian permission, a high school student may transport over-the-counter medications to and from the school health room. If you have any questions, please contact your school health room aide, Julie Gamboa, at 703-714-5710 or jgamboa@fcps.edu.

Yearly membership dues are the most important source of funds for the PTSA and all its programs, and our books show membership is down critically from previous years. We can't meet our fundraising goals for this school year without your support. If you are not sure if you joined the PTSA already this school year, contact Alison Senold.
