Dear CES,
Happy Friday! We have had a wonderful week here at CES despite the unfortunate weather. Our students continue to demonstrate great efforts with their work and learning!
Next week we will have our final Lockdown Drill of the school year. This drill will be unannounced and we will send communication afterwards.
We greatly value parent feedback and we recognize that class placements are an essential component of a successful learning environment. In order to help us organize this information we are asking that all class placement requests be submitted on this Google form (email requests will not be honored):
Class Placement Survey: https://goo.gl/forms/vHbPGBktBFapCx9u2
All feedback must be submitted by June 1.
Thank you for taking the time to fill out this form, and we will reference this information to help us make an informed class placement decision.

CES Featured in Global Classroom Video
Students
in Global Classrooms
across the district are given the chance to collaborate and connect with
children in countries around the world, such as Costa Rica, Japan, and India.
Eight schools are serving as pilot schools for the new initiative. Watch the video.

CES' MULTI-SENSORY SPACE
CES is
aiming to create a multi-sensory space for students to access during the school
day. This sensory space will provide children a location to calm and focus
themselves so they can be better prepared for learning and interacting with
others throughout the school day. In order to create the space, we need your
help. We have created a list of items we are in need of for our mindfulness lab
and have written a grant for these items through Donorschoose.org. Please
consider donating any amount to help fund our lab. If you use the code RIPPLE
when donating, Donors Choose will match your donation up to $50! Thank your in advance for your support!

SOL TESTING IS HERE
Students in grades 3-6 in our
school will be taking the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) Tests between
May 7th and June 8th. It is important that your child
attend school on these days. If possible, please avoid scheduling trips or
appointments that would take your child out of school during this time period.
It is also important that your child have a good night’s rest and a healthy
breakfast before testing. The Virginia Department of Education requires
students in grades 3-8 across the state to take the SOL tests. SOL tests
measure the extent to which students have learned the content and skills
detailed in the Virginia Standards of Learning. Content areas that will be
tested are shown for each grade level below.
Mental Health
Awareness Month
May is National Mental Health Awareness month. While the
majority of our students thrive and are resilient, all students can struggle at
times with emotional and behavioral issues that can affect their learning and
overall wellness. Schools are often the place where these kinds of issues, as
well as other mental health needs, are discovered and where school-based
supports can be provided. FCPS wants all parents and guardians to know that
your school psychologist, school social worker, and school counselor are
available for consultation and support on concerns such as anxiety, peer
relationships, stress, depression or other social and emotional issues. They
can also provide a list of private and community-based mental health resources.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s school to
connect with a member of the student services team. Click on the following link

As we start to wrap up the school year we will review a variety of P2 character traits! Last week students learned about the Other People Matter Mindset. It is amazing to hear students talking in the hall about what they are learning. This week the character trait will be CURIOSITY. Please ask your students to share what they are learning through the Positivity Project. These can be great dinner or car conversations!
