SOL Schedule 2018 (Grades 3-6)

SOL testing started this week.  Please help your child to perform their best by ensuring they get a good night’s rest and eat a healthy breakfast.

During testing, students will not be permitted to have access to any device (other than their testing laptop) that has internet access.  Please consider keeping phones, watches, readers, or any other internet capable device at home on your child’s testing day.  Any devices that students bring to class will be collected by the teachers for the duration of the test.

5th Grade TDAP Reminder

If you have already provided Oak Hill ES with proof of your child receiving the Tdap immunization, thank you.  We have 90 more students that need to submit their Tdap information by June 8, 2018.  Sixth grade students will not be allowed to begin school on August 28, 2018 without submitting proper documentation.

TDAP REQUIREMENT FOR 5TH GRADE STUDENTS:  Virginia Law requires that all students entering sixth grade receive a booster dose of the Tdap vaccine prior to the beginning of school. The Tdap vaccine protects against tetanus (lockjaw), diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough) and is usually given around the age of 11, although it can be given as early as seven years of age.

In order for your child to begin 6th grade you will need to submit one of the following documents before the first day of school.  It is recommended that all paperwork is submitted to the school office by June 8, 2018.

Acceptable documentation can be one of the following:

  1. A copy of your child’s immunization record showing the Tdap vaccine.

  1. A note on a healthcare provider’s letterhead stating the date the Tdap vaccine was given.

  1. A healthcare provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption.

  1. A notarized Religious Exemption Form which is available online at: http://www.doe.virginia.gov/support/health_medical/certificate_religious_exemption.pdf

The Tdap booster is available from your child’s healthcare provider or The Fairfax County Health Department. The Health Department Clinic Locations and hours are available online at: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/hd/hdclinicsite.htm, or by calling 703-246-2411. Please note that students receiving immunizations at the Health Department must be accompanied by an adult, and should bring their immunization records with them.

For questions regarding immunization documentation, please contact Vicki Baron, the school student information assistant, 703-467-3500.

Lost and Found

We have an abundance of jackets that are left at school each day.  Please have your son or daughter check to ensure they claim their missing items.  Any items not picked up by Friday, May 18th will be donated to charity.

Counselor News

In addition to celebrating College Day, we have been conducting guidance lessons designed to help students understand what career options are available to them based on their strengths and interest levels. Children like to imagine what life will be like as an adult and often times think of themselves in glamorous or exciting careers, such as professional athletes or rock stars. By exploring and investigating a variety of careers, you can help your child understand there are lots of interesting and rewarding careers to choose from. Check out this website to learn more about careers: www.vacareerview.org.
