Dear
Parents and Guardians:
The
Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) requires all students across the state
to take Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) Tests if they are enrolled in one
of the following courses: Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Biology, Chemistry, Geosystems
(Earth Science), English 11 (or equivalent course), Geometry, Virginia and
United States History, World History 1 or World History 2.
Mount
Vernon High School will be administering SOL Tests between May 14 and May 24. During
SOL Testing, class periods will not occur in the order in which they normally occur.
Please refer to the schedule below. SOL Testing will start at the beginning of
the day, unless your student is enrolled in US/VA History or Honors Biology.
Testing for these courses will begin at 11:50am, after students eat A lunch.
Bags
(including purses), cell phones, and electronic devices are not permitted in
testing rooms. An electronic device is defined as anything that can transmit
data, including Bluetooth and/or Wi-Fi. This includes smartwatches and athletic
tracking devices (e.g. Fitbits). If a student is found to have a cell phone or electronic
device in the testing room, it will be considered cheating. The student will
exit his/her test, and the cell phone/electronic device will be confiscated. A
testing irregularity will be reported to the VDOE.
If you
have questions about SOL testing, or if you become aware of an unavoidable
conflict that could result in your child missing a testing day, please contact
your child’s counselor.
