Glasgow Community -

Greetings from Williamsburg, Virginia, where I joined hundreds of our students on the spring Busch Gardens “Music in the Park” Trip. I was incredibly proud of not only our students’ performances, but also their behavior and support of each other. It was a remarkable statement of school culture and community that they were so eager to celebrate each other and our school accomplishments. Thank you to our incredible performing arts team for their hard work: Dan Edwards, Tara Freedman, Steve Shook and Miranda Lansberry!

This past week, we celebrated the end of the 3rd quarter with Open Campus. I am continually amazed at the enormous amount of teacher logistics and support needed to make this event possible. This event is a great tradition as it builds community as a school, allows students and staff to find fun ways interact outside our normal routines, and is a way to celebrate all the good behaviors happening around the school. If you do not know about Open Campus, check out this Apple 21 video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmkvkrOS704

Finally, this week is Teacher Appreciation Week. One of the most meaningful and important ways you can support our teachers is by telling them stories about how they have impacted your student. Please take time this week to send an email or write a note to your child’s teacher celebrating one way they have helped your student grow this year. We love working with your students every day and hearing the impact it has is incredibly rewarding.

With the support of the Glasgow PTA, we have organized the following events to show our appreciation for our teachers and staff members:

All Week - We will be encouraging students to participate in the Panther Cards for Staff.
May 2 - The PTA serving breakfast and Chick Fil A is donating Breakfast Biscuits!
May 3 - PTA is providing a Salad Bar for Lunch!
May 4 - Admin will be providing Moe’s lunch to the entire staff!
May 5 - PTA is sponsoring a catered luncheon from Hickory Ridge Grill!
May 6 - A special “cold” treat from Admin will be provided in the cafeteria.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Shawn P. DeRose
Principal

It’s hard to believe, but we have only TWO Panther Stores left this school year! Glasgow teachers and staff would like to end the school year STRONG with a surge of Panther Cards and are making a special effort to celebrate as many students as possible for the many wonderful examples of kindness, commitment and safety that so often go overlooked. If you are interested in volunteering for one of the remaining stores this year, please signup below or email Jen Hitchcock (jenjim24@gmail.com) for more details: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c084aa4a92da0fc1-spring5

Join the PTA and Glasgow staff at our annual celebration of many the wonderful things our teachers and students have accomplished together this year.  It's an informal gathering of displays so attendees can wander the whole area and learn about what has been happening this year... and perhaps what they can participate in next year.  The whole Glasgow community is invited, heavy hors-d'oeuvres will be served, and the whole event is free!

Rising 9th Grade Activities Fair - June 6
The transition from middle school to high school is an important time in a student’s education. A successful transition is often the key to success in ninth grade and beyond. The staff of Stuart/Justice High School is excited to be a part of this special time for your student and we are here to help facilitate a smooth transition.

On Wednesday, June 6, 2018 Stuart High School will host a Rising 9th Grade Activities Fair open to all parents and students interested in finding out more about our clubs, activities and athletic programs. The night will begin in the auditorium at 6:30 with a welcome message from Principal Penny Gros and Director of Student Activities Brian Garvey.  Parents and students will then have an opportunity to visit the clubs, sports and activities of their choice in the main gym. The event will conclude at 8:00pm.

Panthers of the Month
The IB Learner Profile that we focused on this month for our Panther of the Month was balance. Students who are balanced understand the importance of intellectual, physical and emotional balance to achieve personal well-being. Our Panthers of the Month, Claire Coughlin, James Sejas, Hank Cornette, Elizabeth Cheek, Brayan Cruz Cruz, and Maria Ruiz Latorre were chosen for being hardworking, flexible, well rounded, responsible, dependable, and great teammates! Congratulations to all of our winners and nominees!

Shannon Gray receives DonorsChoose funding for flexible seating!
After receiving a PTA grant for flexible seating and seeing immediate benefits, Shannon decided she wanted to provide an even greater variety of seating options for her students. Having heard about DonorsChoose, she decided to try it out and posted a project for flexible seating. Thanks to family, friends, and coworkers (thanks Ms. Loeser!) her project, Movement in Math Class, reached full funding within a week! Feel free to check out her classroom in a few weeks to see how flexible seating has transformed her classroom!
