Oak Hill appreciates our wonderful staff.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Thank yous are in order to my fabulous staff at Oak Hill! As
you know, our teachers, specialists, instructional assistants, itinerants,
assistant principal, custodians, food workers and office staff work hard every
day to support the students at Oak Hill. Their day doesn’t end at
dismissal. They are taking professional development classes to learn new
instructional strategies, they are meeting in collaborative learning teams to
plan instruction or discussing students who are needing more opportunities to
learn standards. Many are firing up their computers at home to assess
student work in Google Classroom or to work virtually with teachers across the
county and the state to work on lessons together. But don’t forget that
each evening the mom and dad hats have to go on as well!
So, I ask that you pause
for a moment and let someone at Oak Hill know what it is that you have
recognized and appreciated this school year. One thank you goes a long way!
And finally thank you to our wonderful PTA and all the parents who donated
items or sent a monetary donation to be used this week. The Oak Hill
teachers and I are so appreciative for the thoughtfulness shown this week.
Please let me know if there is anything I can do to further
support your child’s learning and experience at Oak Hill. My door is
always open!
Sincerely,
Holly DeVore, Principal
As you know we will begin SOL testing next week. Please help
your child to perform their best by ensuring they get a good night’s rest and
eat a healthy breakfast.
During testing, students will not be permitted
to have access to any device (other than their testing laptop) that has
internet access. Please consider keeping phones, watches, readers, or any
other internet capable device at home on your child’s testing day. Any
devices that students bring to class will be collected by the teachers for the
duration of the test.

We have an abundance of jackets that are left at school each day. Please have your son or daughter check to ensure they claim their missing items. Any items not picked
up by Friday, May 18th will be donated to charity.
It is testing season in Reading
this month! In grades 3-6 students have been learning about testing as a
genre. This means students have been learning about how reading passages
and answering questions is a different type of reading then they are used to.
In grades K-2, students are preparing to be assessed using the DRA2
(Developmental Reading Assessment) which assesses students’ oral reading
fluency as well as how they use different reading strategies. All of this
information helps our teachers to inform their instruction while working with
your children. It is also a nice way to see how much they have learned
and how much they’ve grown this year.
Mrs. DeVore and Mr. Credle with Mrs. Muerlin and PTA President Hari Kalahasti as part of Staff Appreciation Week. (The theme of the week is giving teachers and staff the "royal treatment").
