Dear CES,
It is hard to believe that it is already May! The students of CES have done an amazing job so far this year learning, exploring, and building positive relationships. We are excited to continue to watch them shine through the last few weeks of school.
Last Saturday the CES Unified Team did a wonderful job competing at the Special Olympic Games. Also, our all county chorus singers represented CES with pride at the All County Chorus Concert. On Tuesday, the chorus put on a brilliant performance for the students (day) and community (night).
It is springtime at CES which means chicks and ducks. The students are loving the time they get to spend with our new little friends. It is wonderful to witness how gentle and loving the students are when working with the animals.
Next week is staff appreciation week. This is a wonderful time to complete a CES Soaring eagle to show your appreciation. Our dedicated, energetic, caring, and hard working staff deserves the praise.
SOL TESTING IS COMING
Students in grades 3-6 in our
school will be taking the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) Tests between
May 7th and June 8th. It is important that your child
attend school on these days. If possible, please avoid scheduling trips or
appointments that would take your child out of school during this time period.
It is also important that your child have a good night’s rest and a healthy
breakfast before testing. The Virginia Department of Education requires
students in grades 3-8 across the state to take the SOL tests. SOL tests
measure the extent to which students have learned the content and skills
detailed in the Virginia Standards of Learning. Content areas that will be
tested are shown for each grade level below.
2018/2019 Class Placement Survey
We
greatly value parent feedback and we recognize that class placements are an
essential component of a successful learning environment. In order to
help us organize this information we are asking that all class placement
requests be submitted on this Google form (email requests will not be honored):
Class Placement Survey: https://goo.gl/forms/vHbPGBktBFapCx9u2
All feedback must be submitted by June 1.
Thank you for taking the time to fill out this
form, and we will reference this information to help us make an informed class
placement decision.
This week we learned about Connection/Purpose. Connection/purpose
gives individuals the sense that they are put on this earth for a reason and
that they are somehow connected with humanity or the universe. People who
possess a sense of purpose believe that they were put on earth for a reason. That
reason can have all kinds of variety. It could be to create a unique invention,
to bring joy through art or music, or to raise their children to become good
people. These people have a true calling.
One of the most
insightful and impactful researchers of this strength was Viktor Frankl, the
author of Man’s Search for Meaning. Frankl analyzed and wrote about his
experiences in Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II. Frankl’s
experiences taught him that purpose provides strength and that “Those who have
a ‘why’ to life, can bear with almost any ‘how’.”
