Dear Hughes Parents and Guardians:
Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week. We will share some extra appreciation with our teachers and staff to honor
their work and dedication to our students and our community. Thank you for your support of our work here
at Hughes. Together we are able to
achieve success for all of our students.
Next Friday are the annual Hughes - Herndon basketball games, held this year in the South Lakes High School Gym. Doors open at 5:40 pm. The first game starts at 6:00 pm. There will be a girls' game, 7th grade boys' game, and 8th grade boys' game. Tickets are $5. Students should be picked up no later than 8:30 pm. We hope to see the whole community at South Lakes High School supporting the Hughes' teams.

Community Service Hours Requirement
Per our county requirement, all 8th grade
students must complete a minimum of 15 hours of community service prior to
graduating the 8th grade. Students log their hours in X2Vol
and received instruction as seventh and 8th graders on how to use
this system. Students who have not yet logged the minimum hour
requirement will be receiving a letter through their 3rd period
teacher next week. The final deadline is Thursday, May 31st.

Avoid the lines! Purchase your Basketball
Challenge tickets in the cafeteria during ALL lunches next week. Then on
Friday, May 11, just head to the Presale Ticket line to watch the great games against
Herndon MS. Go Panthers!!

Attendance Calls During Online SOL Testing
During
SOL testing at middle schools from Monday, May 7, 2018 through Friday, June 8,
2018 the morning attendance telephone calls, texts and e-mails to home for
reporting a student’s absence will not occur. This temporary suspension
reflects the fact that students are often in designated testing sites within
the school during the normal attendance-taking time. The evening attendance
telephone calls and e-mails will still remain in place.
After School Ends June 1st
The last day for Hughes' After School activity for this school year is Friday, June 1st. There will be no late bus transportation available after June 1. If a student needs to stay after school with a teacher, the student will need to make alternate transportation plans.

Please Support the LHMS Odyssey of the Mind Team as They Head to World Finals
We are extremely proud of our LHMS Odyssey of the Mind team of Ben Petinaux, Lili Gabor, Chloe Moskowitz, Harrison Muncrief, Kayla Polio-Kline, Michael Juarez-Sesam, and E.J. Norton, who won 2nd place at the Virginia State OotM tournament in Newport News, VA on April 14. Their next stop is the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals at Iowa State University on May 23-27. The team is looking for your support to cover their registration and travel costs.

First Annual Dragon Dash 5K
The First Annual Dragon Dash 5K will be held at Dogwood
Elementary School on Saturday, June 2nd at 8:30am. Please support
Dogwood Elementary School as they continue their journey in becoming an
elementary IB school (Primary Years Programme). All proceeds from the race will
support the PYP initiative. Hughes Panthers, let’s support our Dogwood Dragons!

Summer Camp is now open for registration!
Camp Dates: July 2 – August 2
(No Camp on July 4)
This
camp is only for students attending Hughes, Herndon, Carson, Longfellow or
Cooper Middle Schools in 2018-2019. Participants must be rising 7th and 8th

Tutoring Available After School
Students are welcome to come for tutoring help, any subject, by South Lakes High School students on Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30 pm.

2018-19 Student Transfer High School Curricular Application
For transfers effective at the beginning of the 2018-19 school year, the enrolling parent will submit transfer applications and pay fees online. The enrolling parent will access the online student transfer application on the Student Transfer website at https://www.fcps.edu/registration/student-transfers. The application will be unavailable from 12:00am-5:00am daily for maintenance.
