Haycock Hello
April 30, 2018
Your children
did such a great job at the Haycock Boosterthon Fun Run on Thursday! Thank you for supporting our school these past
two weeks. Even though the Fun Run is over, we are not finished yet. It is time
to focus on collections. Please have all
of your pledge money turned in by May 4. Simply place all pledge money into the
collection envelope your students came home with and send that back to school. Also,
sponsors can pay online if they entered their email address on funrun.com.
Thank you again for your support of our school! Have a wonderful evening!
Due to the large number of school busses arriving at Haycock on Wednesday morning for the Whole School Field Trip, we are asking parents and staff NOT to park in the bus loop. The gates of the basketball courts will be open and staff and parents are welcome to park on the blacktop.
As of this week,
Haycock only has one Dining Room Assistant to help cover the entire lunch
room. While we are searching for a new Dining Room Assistant, staff are volunteering their time to assist in the cafeteria. We are looking for parent volunteers to help in the cafeteria.
Volunteer time slots are available and are in 1 hour
blocks. Any time spent volunteering will be much appreciated! Thank you to the parents who have been volunteering!

clinical psychologist, parenting expert and New York Times best-selling author,
to McLean on Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at 7 pm at Temple Rodef Shalom.
Tickets are still available for $25 at voicelessons.brownpapertickets.com or $30
at the door.
You know those conversations with your kids that you wish you
could rewind and do over? The Safe Community Coalition will present parenting
expert and New York Times best-selling author Dr. Wendy Mogel on May 2 to teach
us all how to avoid those do-over moments. In her new book, Voice Lessons for Parents: What to
Say, How to Say it, and When to Listen, Dr. Mogel offers an
essential guide to the art of talking with children of all ages, showing us how
a change in voice can transform communication and ease the relationship between
parents and children. Her research-based guidelines help parents communicate
with more warmth, respect, and sincerity, as well as foster open parent-child relationships
that will help ensure our children's success in the classroom and in life.
There will be a book signing after Dr. Mogel's talk. Buy
your tickets now!
National School Nurse Day is May 9, 2018. It is a day to recognize
the many contributions that school nurses make to student health and learning.
The theme for this year is: School Nurses: Advocates for 21st Century Student
Health.
Fairfax County Public Schools appreciates the role of the Public
Health Nurse (PHN) and the School Health Aide (SHA) for their daily
contribution to the health and welfare of all of our students. The knowledge
and expertise of the school health team are invaluable in addressing the wide
range of health concerns that may affect the student’s ability to learn. Our
PHNs and SHAs take on multiple roles each and every day in their desire to help
all students succeed.
Please join us in thanking the PHNs and SHAs for their hard work
and dedication to the FCPS students.

THANK YOU to Haycock’s Public Health Nurse - Carol McDevitt
AND Haycock’s School Health Aide - Leah Crane
We are now in staffing season. The number of staff
members we are allocated is based upon student enrollment. If you have a
child or know of a family who has a child who will be attending Haycock next
school year and who currently does not attend Haycock, please register your
child now.
If a child has been accepted into the AAP program from another
school and the family has notified the AAP Office of the acceptance, there is
no need to notify Haycock. The AAP Office communicates the list of
students who will be attending Haycock from other schools to Haycock.
Click on the link below to fill out the form for rising
kindergarteners. If your child is turning 5 on or before September 30, 2018,
they are eligible for kindergarten. Partial registration paperwork is accepted.
This form is only requested to be completed if you have a rising
kindergartener attending Haycock next school year.

Right now, we want to make sure our school is fully staffed for
next school year. We also want to make sure we are able to have the
smallest class sizes possible. The sooner we know how many students will
be attending Haycock next school year, the sooner we can advocate for more staff
and then hire more teachers.
You are welcome to use the attached New Student Registration
Checklist in order to help you gather the information to register your child at
Haycock.
The person who is able to answer all of your registration
questions is Rebecca Wright. She is reached via e-mail at: rlwright@fcps.edu or call the school office
at: 703-531-4002
