Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex developmental
disability that and affect a person’s ability to communicate, and interact with
others.
Our school proudly supports the needs of our students with
Autism. Autism effects 1 in 68 children. As a school
community, we are coming together to bring awareness, acceptance, and
understanding of autism.

will be Autism Awareness Week!
Friday, April 27th ‘Acceptance Day’
Accept all who different. Be comfortable with everyone. Dress in
your most comfortable clothes to show your acceptance

 The SOL testing schedule has been set for Fort Belvoir.
Please try to avoid scheduling appointments on the days your child is scheduled to take an SOL test.
The SOL testing dates are listed below.

APPRECIATION WEEK
May
7 - 11
During the week of May 7-11, we will be showing appreciation for
all staff members that support our Dolphin students to include: Bus Drivers,
Office Staff, Specialists, Classroom Teachers, Instructional Assistants,
Cafeteria Workers, and Custodians. The PTO is graciously sponsoring
appreciation activities for Staff on May 7th, 9th, and 11th. If your child is
interested, we are inviting students to participate in the following
appreciation activities for staff members that are special to them.
Tuesday, May 8th - Thank you with a Card - students may bring in
cards for staff members
Thursday, May 10th - Thank you with a Flower -
students may bring in a flower for staff members

Participants will learn about
anger as a basic emotion, how to recognize what triggers anger, the impact of
uncontrolled an-ger on self and others, and helpful tools to manage anger in
healthy ways. This is a 2 hour workshop meant as an intro-duction to
identifying, understanding and coping with anger in the home, at work and in
relationships.

The Walt Whitman Middle School Parent Teacher
Student Association (PTSA) would like to invite the Fort Belvoir Upper School
rising 7th grade students and families to our PTSA meeting on May 10, 2018 @
6:30PM. It would be an opportunity for students and families to become familiar
with Whitman’s PTSA activities and mission, encourage rising middle school
students to use their voice to make positive changes that impact their school
experience, meet other Whitman students and families, and meet our principal, Mr.

The Whitman PTSA believes that family and
community engagement is a crucial component to student success. To build more
community support and outreach within our Mount Vernon School Pyramid, Whitman

from 2-4PM. This will be a great opportunity for your families to interact with
our Whitman Middle School community. We invite you to share this event with

Whitman Family Market
Whitman has partnered with Capital Area Foods to create the Whitman Fresh Foods Market. The goal of the market program is to help alleviate hunger in our community with a monthly distribution of healthy and nutritious foods for children and families. There is no obligation, it is a free market, and everyone is welcome! Just come and shop!
