SOL UPDATE
The schedule for our Standards of Learning
(SOL) assessments for grades 3-6 can be found on our Fairfax Villa website. All of the SOLs are online
and the math and reading ones are computer adaptive.
In order for students to feel comfortable with
the format of the online tests, all 3rd grade students as well
as all older students who are new to the SOLs will learn about the types of
questions and the tools that are on the different subject tests. Students who
use the audio option will also have an opportunity to see how that feature
works before using it on the SOLs.
If you would like more information on the SOL
test formats and the practice tools that are available to the public, go
to http://doe.virginia.gov/testing/sol/practice_items/testnav8.shtml
A good website for practicing the content for
the SOLs is SOLPass at http://www.solpass.org/login/ Students type in our school's name until it appears. They can
get the password from their teacher or Mrs. Schmidt.
Please try to avoid scheduling appointments
during your child’s SOL testing and ensure that your student gets a good
night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast. If you know that your child will be
absent during a test, please contact her or his teacher as soon as possible.
All tests will begin at 9:30 in the morning.

BOOSTERTHON/VILLA
FUN RUN!
What a
HUGE success! We made our goal! We are in the process of finishing up and are
so close to having all pledge money collected.
There are still some outstanding pledges. A reminder letter was sent home yesterday to
those that still have money due. We will
also send an email in a few days with that information.
Please
get any outstanding pledge money in by Thursday, April 26. And thank you again for helping to make this
such a success!
PTA MEETING – WEDNESDAY, MAY 16 @ 7:00 pm IN THE FAIRFAX
VILLA LIBRARY
The
presentation that was to have happened on March 21 by the Garden Club/Outdoor
Classroom has been rescheduled for May 16.
They will give an introduction to the school's courtyard garden.
Come find out how you and your family can get involved in growing vegetables,
raising monarchs, creating habitat, and enhancing the outdoor classroom.
We will
also be doing a year-end wrap-up and plan for next year. We would love to have your feedback and
suggestions. Please try to make it to
this meeting. We will hopefully have a
survey out before this meeting, which could help spur on the conversation.
While
we would like everyone to join the PTA, you do not need to be a PTA member to
attend PTA meetings. We would love to
have you attend, especially if we have a guest speaker that interests you or if
you have an issue or suggestion you would like to discuss.
TEACHER
APPRECIATION WEEK
Teacher Appreciation Week is quickly approaching, and the
PTA needs your help!! We will be providing a breakfast, a lunch, some snacks, a
few little surprises, AND revamping the teacher’s lounge! To make all this
happen, PTA would greatly appreciate monetary donations and possibly donating a
few hours to help with the lounge revamp. We appreciate and recognize all of
your Boosterthon efforts, which are funding new library books and laptops. We are hoping you will help us show our
teachers how much their efforts are appreciated. Money can be sent in with your
child at any point, and a Sign-Up Genius will be sent out soon. Thank you for all of your efforts to make
Fairfax Villa a great place to work and learn!
