CES Family Bulletin #31

D.C.

Dear CES Families,

Welcome to the 4th quarter! We have eight more weeks of learning, end-of-year assessments, and fun. It will be a busy time so be sure to stay up-to-date with the communication from CES.

We had a very exciting week filled with fun events and activities. On Tuesday, our second graders put on two very impressive performances of E-I-E-I OOPS! On Wednesday, our PTA hosted a brilliant Bike Rodeo. The weather was wonderful and everyone learned about bicycle safety. Today, we had a Positively Perfect Pep Rally to get everyone excited for the big volleyball game tonight against Union Mill. We hope to see many of you at Centreville High School at 7:00 to cheer on our CES team! Tickets are available at the door if you did not already purchase them. We will cap this exciting week off with our Spring School Clean-up tomorrow morning from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM.

This week, we celebrated Wellness of our Body, Mind & Earth. Each day students did a great job wearing certain colored clothes that represent the different topics that we covered. Thank you for helping us celebrate Wellness at CES!

2018/2019 Class Placement Survey

We greatly value parent feedback and we recognize that class placements are an essential component of a successful learning environment.  In order to help us organize this information we are asking that all class placement requests be submitted on this Google form (email requests will not be honored):

Class Placement Survey: https://goo.gl/forms/vHbPGBktBFapCx9u2

All feedback must be submitted by June 1.

Thank you for taking the time to fill out this form, and we will reference this information to help us make an informed class placement decision.

p2

This week we explored the LOVE of LEARNING through P2. Those who exemplify love of learning are intrinsically motivated and engaged in a topic regardless of achieving an external standard. They enjoy learning simply for the sake of learning. They do not need a prize or a high grade as a reward. Their reward is the process of doing the work and improving.

This week's character strength example is Dr. Mae Jemison. Mae is a true renaissance woman -- who has been a doctor, dancer, astronaut, author, professor, and chemical engineer. Before becoming an astronaut and traveling in space aboard the Endeavor Space Shuttle in 1992, she earned her MD and served as a Peace Corps Medical Doctor in Liberia and Sierra Leone. She is the current principal of the 100 Year Starship, whose mission is to "make the capability of human travel beyond our solar system a reality within the next 100 years."
