SCHOOL NEWS: Progress Reports Come Home Today! Ask your child about our visit from author Stephen Smith.
There's a lot of news this week.
April 24th - Spring Portraits and Group Class Photos
Parent Survey: A link came out on Monday for our annual parent survey. You should also be getting the link from your child's teacher today. Our parent survey will stay open until April 27th. Please help us identify the glows, grows and oh-nos(!) of Rolling Valley. We value your input.
Bike Grant: We are happy to report that we were the recipient of 27 brand new bicycles this week (and helmets) as a result of a grant through FCPS. These bikes will be included as a part of our PE program.
SOL Dates: It's getting to be the time of year for our state testing in grades 3-6. Click here for the schedule. It really helps if your child comes on the day of their scheduled test. If your family has conflicts with the schedule, please email Jessica DaSilva ASAP at jldasilva@fcps.edu.
End of Can Collection: With Earth Day today we end our aluminum can collection. We have so far collected over 200 pounds of cans and have gotten $82.00 for our efforts. Starting on Monday, any cans that come in will just be recycled and not taken to the scrap metal place. Thanks to all of you who helped us save the environment and make a little money. A huge thank you to Mrs. Adames and Mrs. Vargas who helped crush cans for the last few months! We have $782 for our water bottle filler. We are about $718 short (just in case anyone wants to make a donation!).
Talent Show - We need some ACTS! What’s your talent? We would love to see it at our talent show on June 15! Due to the SOL schedule this year, auditions for the annual
RVES Talent Show have to be held earlier than usual. Auditions are May 1,
May 2 and May 3! Get your act together and fill out the audition form that came out in last week's Friday folder. We will also post it on our website and will have some extra copies in the front office. Print it, fill it out and give it to Mrs. Ryan as soon as
possible. Without an audition, you can’t participate and we would hate to
miss your act!
REMINDER:SCA News: From April 23rd through the 27th, the Student Council
Association will be selling peace sign necklaces to raise money for a Rolling
Valley community service project. The necklaces will be sold in the front lobby
before school. Each necklace will be one dollar. The students will wear the
peace sign necklaces during the first week of June during our 50th Anniversary
Spirit Week!
REMINDER: On Friday, April 27th, SCA will be hosting a
school-wide spirit day! On April 27th, students are asked to wear their best
Hawaiian outfits! Please make sure their outfits are school appropriate.
Examples include: flower print shirts, tropical Hawaiian print shirts, floral
leis, etc.
Does your organization use space in Rolling Valley? The FCPS Community Use office is now approving all requests
for use in FCPS buildings after school hours first, before it is routed to
individual schools. If you are requesting space, please plan ahead.
Any request submitted less than 15 days before the event day will be
declined. For next school year, please do not enter your requests until
July 1, 2018 or after.

ADMINISTRATIVE PROFESSIONALS WEEK-Monday, April 23 – Friday, April 27: Next week is Administrative Professionals Week. If you aren’t sure who these people are at RVES, they are the ones who make the magic happen: Anne Walker, Laura Vargas, Mary Beth Vaughn (all front office), and Katie Rucker (in the library). They make every task appear effortless, and always have a smile to brighten your day! I am sure these ladies would be delighted with a note or a poem or a tray of lasagna or some pirate stickers or a friendly hello when you see them next week.
