Haycock Hello
April 23, 2018
Haycock's Boosterthon Fun Run is Thursday, April 26. Our Fun Run includes EVERY student in a fun, fitness event while
helping our school raise much-needed funds.
This year, our entire
school is raising funds for technology, a digital marquee, and books for
classroom libraries.
Here’s how you can support Haycock Elementary:
-
Register
your student on funrun.com using this code:
616-146 Once you do, your student will receive a FREE GIFT
just for being registered. Then, use funrun.com to log pledges for your child.
-
Reach out to
sponsors. Every student’s goal is to
connect with 10 sponsors. And with funrun.com’s smart sharing features,
reaching out to sponsors is easier than ever. The easiest way to get
pledges is to simply click the Facebook share button on your student’s
pledge page. Plus, with a few clicks, you can create a custom Student Star
video to share on social media. You can also use the Easy Emailer to
connect with friends and family. As you gather pledges, be sure to record
each sponsor’s e-mail address so they have the opportunity to easily pay
for your student’s pledge online via credit card.
-
Ask your
child about the Castle Quest Character Lesson of the day!
This year’s character program is Castle Quest, a castle theme all about
bravery. On their quest to regain Bravemore Castle, students will learn
the “SIX VIRTUES of a TRUE HERO” from a cast of colorful characters. Join
along by watching the fun character videos with your child on funrun.com.
-
Come to the
Fun Run on April, 26th! All
students are included in the Fun Run, regardless of financial
participation. Remember, students will be running 30-35 laps, and we would
love for you to come out and cheer!
We will be holding the Fun Run outside on our new field. Parents are encouraged to come and cheer! We hope a few parents would help us pass out water bottles and check the laps on the student t-shirts as the students run each lap. The lap chart is located on the back of each t-shirt so as the student runs past, the adult is able to mark the lap off.
This is the schedule we will follow when using the field:
Kinder, 1st, and 2nd Grade -10:00 – 11:00
5th and 6th Grade – 11:00 – 12:00
3rd and 4th Grade – 2:00 – 3:00
If we are not able to be outside due to weather, we will be inside using the gym:
6th Grade – 9:25 – 10:25
5th Grade – 10:25 – 11:25
4th Grade – 11:25 – 12:25
3rd Grade – 12:55 – 1:55
2nd Grade and Kinder – 1:55 – 2:55
1st Grade – 2:55 – 3:55
If you will be bringing your child to work with you on April 26, the day of the Haycock Boosterthon Fun Run, your child is welcome to participate in an alternative Fun Run for students
on Wednesday, April 25.
The Fun Run on April 25 will begin at 2PM and be held in the
cafeteria. The Boosterthon team and some Haycock staff will be present
cheering the students on. We would love to have parents cheering students
on too.
If your child will be participating in the alternative Fun
Run on April 25, complete this Google Survey: https://goo.gl/forms/fRGGODIcS0RdJZvf2
There is a special challenge
tonight: If your child logs a pledge onto fun run.com tonight, then tomorrow your child is able to
wear their favorite school appropriate pajamas! The easiest way to ask for pledges is by
creating a Student Star Video with your student and sharing it with friends and
family!
Log your pledges onto funrun.com,
or if you do not have internet access, your student can bring in their pledge
crown with pledges written on the back!
If you have not logged in to funrun.com
yet, search for “Haycock Elementary” OR enter our school code: 616-146.
April is Autism Awareness and Acceptance month and at Haycock we will be "shining a light" on autism by participating in Light It Up Blue, a global initiative that kicks off Autism Awareness month and helps raise awareness about autism. During April, we will have several activities to help raise awareness:
· Students and staff are encouraged to wear their Haycock blue (or anything blue) this Friday, April 27.
· We will also be showing the film "Amazing Things Happen” https://youtu.be/Ezv85LMFx which helps students better understand autism.
· We also will hold our 3rd Annual Peeps Diorama contest! Students are encouraged to to submit a Peeps Diorama depicting the theme "Inside we are All the Same". There will be prizes awarded for the most creative dioramas that show autism acceptance and inclusion. Dioramas could be about your favorite book or movie, TV show, or character that shows acceptance and inclusion! Be creative! Dioramas will be on display in the library. Dioramas will be due on April 27th and prizes will be awarded the following week!

National School Nurse Day is May 9, 2018. It is a day to recognize the many contributions that school nurses make to student health and learning. The theme for this year is: School Nurses: Advocates for 21st Century Student Health.
Fairfax County Public Schools appreciates the role of the Public Health Nurse (PHN) and the School Health Aide (SHA) for their daily contribution to the health and welfare of all of our students. The knowledge and expertise of the school health team are invaluable in addressing the wide range of health concerns that may affect the student’s ability to learn. Our PHNs and SHAs take on multiple roles each and every day in their desire to help all students succeed.
Please join us in thanking the PHNs and SHAs for their hard work and dedication to the FCPS students.

THANK YOU to Haycock’s Public Health Nurse - Carol McDevitt AND Haycock’s School Health Aide - Leah Crane
This letter is to inform you that the fire alarm system at
our school will be inspected and tested during the week of April 23, 2018.
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the
Fairfax County Office of the Fire Marshal require Fairfax County Public Schools
to test your fire alarm system annually. This test is very extensive, as we
must inspect and test each and every fire alarm device. This testing can only
be performed when the building is unoccupied; therefore, the typical hours of
testing are from approximately 10:00 P.M. until 5:00 A.M., Monday through
Friday. System testing can range from 1 day to 5 days, depending on building
size.
In an effort to minimize disruption to the citizens, the
testing of the audible portion (horns) of the system is performed at the end of
the total system test (the last testing day). The approximate amount of time
that the audible portion (horns) are activated per site, per test, are as
follows:
- Elementary schools – 15 minutes
Our fire alarm testing team will leave a notice of
completion when their job is complete. Shortly after this comprehensive
inspection and test, a Fairfax County Fire Marshal will visit your site to
approve the system for the year.
We are now in staffing season. The number of staff
members we are allocated is based upon student enrollment. If you have a
child or know of a family who has a child who will be attending Haycock next school
year and who currently does not attend Haycock, please register your child now.
If a child has been accepted into the AAP program from another
school and the family has notified the AAP Office of the acceptance, there is
no need to notify Haycock. The AAP Office communicates the list of
students who will be attending Haycock from other schools to Haycock.
Click on the link below to fill out the form for rising
kindergarteners. If your child is turning 5 on or before September 30, 2018,
they are eligible for kindergarten. Partial registration paperwork is accepted.
This form is only requested to be completed if you have a rising
kindergartener attending Haycock next school year.

Right now, we want to make sure our school is fully staffed for
next school year. We also want to make sure we are able to have the
smallest class sizes possible. The sooner we know how many students will
be attending Haycock next school year, the sooner we can advocate for more
staff and then hire more teachers.
You are welcome to use the attached New Student Registration
Checklist in order to help you gather the information to register your child at
Haycock.
The person who is able to answer all of your registration questions
is Rebecca Wright. She is reached via e-mail at: rlwright@fcps.edu or call the school office
at: 703-531-4002
