Dear Spring Hill Parents,
I hope you and your family are doing well. Does anyone know when spring is actually
going to arrive? It is incredible that
we are already into the fourth quarter and as such I am already planning for
the 2018-2019 school year. However, before
we jump into next year, lets focus a little bit on this Saturday – FUN
FAIR! As the annual tradition continues,
I hope you and your family are planning on attending this wonderful community
event. The Fun Fair committee is in need
of volunteers to run a number of stations, so please take a moment and sign up
for a spot on the HUB. Generally, the
last 2 hours are the most difficult to find volunteers, so if you have the
time, please consider signing up for a slot between 2pm and 4pm. I look forward to seeing everyone on
Saturday.
Many of you may have noticed the cubbies near the front
entrance of the school. The cubbies are
our new way of dropping off homework, lunches, instruments and other items that
students may have forgotten to bring to school. Starting on Monday, I am asking that parents of students in grades 2
through 6, begin using the cubbies to drop off items students have forgotten
instead of dropping off items in the office. There will be a small slip of paper with pencils on top of the
cubby. Similar to dropping off in the
office, please write your child’s name on the paper, place the item in a cubby
(instruments can be placed on top or on the side of the cubbies), and students
will be responsible for picking up their item. Teachers will be reminding students over the remainder of the year to
check the cubby if they forgot something at home. For students in Kindergarten and First grade,
we ask parents to continue following the old procedures of dropping off the
item in the office. This change will
take time, so please work with us as we try to instill in our students the
character trait of responsibility.
With only 43 days of school left, there are many items that
we are working on at Spring Hill, to prepare for the next school year. In
preparation for the 2018-2019 school year, teachers,
counselors, specialists and administration will be working on classroom
assignments for all students. As I have done in the past, I am giving parents the
opportunity to provide me with information about their child’s
personality, learning style and friend list, to assist in providing the best possible fit for next year. I will accept letters between Monday, April 23rd and Friday, May 4th. I
would prefer it if you send your letter directly to me
in an e-mail at woolk@fcps.edu. If you do not receive a response from me
within a couple of days telling you
that I have received it, feel free
to send me a second e-mail
asking if I received it. Please
refrain from asking
current teachers who
would
be the best teacher for your child next year. It is
important that you know that I will not consider requests for specific teachers
and that I delete emails that contain a request for a specific teacher. You are
under no obligation to send a letter.
As with last year, classroom
assignments will not be announced until the week prior to the start of school.
See everyone at Fun Fair!
William O. Olk, Principal
