Students enjoyed a BBQ lunch from Fairfax County Food and Nutrition Services last week!
Students and staff got off to a great
start on Tuesday as we began the final grading period of this school
year! It is hard to believe that we are fast approaching the final months
of school!
We are looking forward to honoring our
office staff and health room aide during Office Staff Appreciation Week,
April 23-27. Mrs. Dall, Mrs. Li, Mrs. Bertrand, Mrs. Bippert, and
Mrs. Schmitt work very hard managing our student records, assisting
parents and the community, distributing paperwork, keeping students safe, and
have countless other responsibilities yet they always welcome staff and
visitors with their bright smiles. Mrs. Cappellari, our School Health Aide,
is also instrumental in supporting our students with health issues or
minor injuries. Please join us in recognizing the office and clinic staff
for all they do by stopping by to express your thanks or by sending in a note
of appreciation.
Enjoy the upcoming weekend!

information about their children’s required assessments. In compliance
with Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) testing transparency, these
webpages give an overview of:

refuse participation in state testing (e.g., SOLs)
- Required assessments
at each grade level
- Resources
for accessing and understanding assessment results
Thank you for your support and assistance with
our SOL test administration.

GBW will join the Chantilly
Pyramid in celebrating “College
Day” on Friday, April 27, 2018. GBW teachers and staff will proudly share their college
experiences with their students. We
are encouraging students to wear college shirts or colors from a favorite
college/university.
Our goal is to start the college
conversation with our students and encourage them to keep an eye on the future.
Our sixth graders will be visited by CHS seniors, who will talk about how they
prepared themselves to be “college ready.”
Here are some reasons why FCPS
supports “College Day.”
- College
graduates earn about $1,648 more each month, on average, than someone with
a high school diploma.
- The
earlier a child learns about college, and believes they can go, the more
likely it is that they’ll go.
- Fairfax
County Public Schools has programs to help students who are the first in
their family to go to college, or need help affording college.
We aim to help our students
create a vision for their future career paths!

We are placing all the items in the Lost and Found on a
table in the main hallway next week; April 16 - 20 .
Students and parents are welcome to stop by and pick up items that belong to
your family. Any items remaining on Friday, April 20, will be donated to
charity.
Assists with Class Placement
In today's Thursday Folder, please look for a special
“light blue” colored survey letter to parents. This survey letter gives
you the opportunity to share information with us about your child that will
assist us in the class placement process for next year. If you would like to complete this
form, please return it no later than Friday, April 27.
Deadline Tomorrow
Please
remember that tomorrow is the last day to turn in the Student’s Intention for Next School Year Form. We need your help in letting us know if your child will be
returning to GBW next year. This will greatly help us in projecting our
total enrollment for next school year.
