Dear Parents and Guardians:
Your
child will be taking one or more Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL)
End-of-Course Tests between May 11th and May 24th.
Friday, May 11 – Civics 8
Monday, May 14 – Reading 8
Tuesday, May 15– Reading 7
Thursday, May 17 – Science 8
Friday, May 18 – Algebra 1 (7th Grade students only)
Tuesday, May 22 – Algebra 2 & Geometry
Wednesday, May 23 - Math 8 & Algebra 1 8th (8th Grade
students only)
Thursday, May 24 - Math 7 & Math 7 Honors
It is important that your child
attend school on these days. If possible, please avoid scheduling trips or
appointments that would take your child out of school during this time period.
It is also important that your child have a good night’s rest and a healthy
breakfast before testing. If you become aware of an unavoidable conflict that
could result in your child missing a testing day, please notify our testing
coordinator, Esther Ferrell ELFerrell@fcps.edu,
as soon as possible.
The Virginia Department of
Education (VDOE) requires all students across the state to take SOL tests if
they are enrolled in courses where there is an EOC test. SOL tests measure the
extent to which students have learned the content and skills within the
Virginia Standards of Learning. The purpose of SOL testing is to provide
information about student achievement to the parent, school, school division,
and state. In most cases, test scores are available for parents by the end of
the school year. We will plan to share SOL scores with students as end of the
year grades are provided.
RAMADAN
This year Ramadan will fall
during the testing window. All testing will be started in the morning,
when we feel all students will be able to do their best on all
assessments. There are no tests given in the afternoon. If you feel that
your child will not be able to test during the window and will need to test
earlier that week, we will need to plan for testing before May 11th.
Please understand that teachers may not be finished with curriculum review if
your student tests early. You may notify our testing coordinator by
completing this form to request an early accommodation for Ramadan. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdMyymB16HaYoNe66-mA5qcHkeIkl-d0USOnrg_9OlsaP4njw/viewform
SOL RETAKE PERMISSION
Students who fail an SOL by a
close margin (defined by the state as 375 – 399) may be given the opportunity
to receive remediation and retest. We need parent permission to retest
students. Please click this link to provide permission or deny retakes.
