We are looking forward next week to the wonderful performances of Hairspray Jr in the Lecture Hall.  The students and Ms. Dewenter have worked hard to ensure they will be fantastic shows!  Please come out and enjoy the production.  Showtimes are listed below.

    SOL Testing Dates

For your planning purposes, the end of year SOL testing window for grades 7 and 8 is May 8th – May 23rd, with make-ups and retakes following those dates. Please note that high school credit courses – Algebra, Geometry, and world languages – also have end of year final exams.

Speakers Needed for Hughes MS Career Day

Would you like to help inspire young people in our community?  Hughes Middle School annual Career Day will take place on Thursday, April 19th  from 9:00 – 10:30 am.   This year 7th graders will hear from a panel of George Mason University student athletes discussing academics and athletics.  8th graders will hear from guest speakers from various career professions.

We are looking for about 10 more speakers from variety of career and educational backgrounds.  Each guest speaker will visit two 8th grade classrooms for about 35 minutes each.  If you are able to participate, or would like more information, please contact Tanipa Thomas Tfthomas@fcps.edu /703-715-3646, or Mark Blocker at mark.blocker@fcps.edu /703-715-3638.

    Ramadan and Spring SOL Testing

This spring, the SOL non-writing window will overlap with Ramadan, the Muslim holy month marked by daily fasting from sunrise to sunset. Ramadan begins the evening of Tuesday, May 15, and ends the evening of Thursday, June 14.

Students who will be observing Ramadan may be given the option to test at the beginning of the spring SOL window (May 7-15) to avoid testing during the holiday.  Parents of students observing Ramadan, if you wish for your child to test at the beginning of the SOL window (May 7 – 15), please contact the Director of Student Services, Michele Beard mbeard@fcps.edu by Monday, April 30th.
