Upcoming SOL and AP Tests

Testing season is upon us. SOL testing begins May 7th and will close out May 24th, save for make-ups and retakes. AP Testing also begins on May 7th and will close out May 18th. Students should see their teachers concerning testing times and locations. Specific test assignments are available on the OHS website.

For students taking an SOL: Please report directly to your testing location. AM testing sessions begin at 8:10 am, and PM testing sessions begin at 11:18 am. Leave your backpack, cell phone, and any wearable technology in your locker to avoid disrupting the testing environment. You may, however, bring your own pencil and a book to read that is irrelevant to the SOL test you are taking. Please get a good night’s sleep and eat a good breakfast because you will need to focus and do your best in order to earn required credits for graduation.  Don’t hesitate to see your teacher or counselor for advice on how to prepare for the exams. All SOLs are untimed tests, so you may have as much time as you need to complete each part.

For students taking an AP Exam: Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start time of your exam so you are ready to start the exam on time. If you are late, you will not be able to sit for the exam or for a makeup. If you miss an exam without an excuse, you will be charged a $15 unused exam fee. Come prepared with any necessary materials you need for the exam, including pencil, pen, and/or calculator. ! Make sure to leave anything else – including your cell phone! – in your locker or at home. You cannot bring it into the testing room. Make sure to get a good night’s rest before the exam. Your teacher can help guide you with what is necessary for each specific exam.  Please see your counselor if you have any questions about AP testing.

Sports PPE for next year – Registration Now Open!

Information also available online.

Registration is now open!  To register for a PPE, go to: https://www.fcps.edu/athletic.preparticipation.screenings and follow the links for sports physicals.

In preparation for next school year, to participate in sports next school year, your child must have a physical on file dated on or after May 1, 2018, on the new form (Revised February 2017). This includes working out in the weight room, conditioning, “green days” and try outs.
The Oakton High School Athletic Training Program is offering an opportunity for students to receive a sports health screening and pre-participation physical (PPE) on Monday May 14, 2018 from 5:30-8 pm. Our team physicians, as well as a staff of nurses, physical therapists and certified athletic trainers will be on hand to provide a thorough screening. If during the screening or physical, the physicians find something that is questionable to them regarding your child’s health, they may request further evaluation by another physician. We are asking for a minimum donation of $50 in exchange for the PPE. Registration is now open!  To register for a PPE, go to: https://www.fcps.edu/athletic.preparticipation.screenings and follow the links for sports physicals. There is also a link for the new form there as well. Walk-ins are also welcome on that evening but we ask for a $60 donation at that time. This physical is good for the entire following school year.
This is the Athletic Training Program’s method of fund raising. All the funds for equipment and supplies are raised at this event. The county provides no funding for any of the supplies or equipment in the athletic training room that is used to take care of our athletes. Your support would be greatly appreciated. You too benefit from this process. Once your child’s VHSL physical form is completed that night, it stays on file at the school, as well as a digital copy is kept on our server, so if you need a copy just email one of the ATCs and we can sent you a copy.
PPE’s are being offered in the same format at every high school in FCPS and are fund raising efforts at those schools as well. If you cannot attend the PPEs at Oakton H.S., there may be another local high school offering the opportunity on a date that may be more convenient for you. If you have any questions or concerns, contact Paul Rupp, MS, ATC at prupp@fcps.edu.

The All-Night Grad Party is approaching and this year we are stepping up the prizes for our well deserving graduates! In the past we have had awesome prize baskets donated by families, but this year because we are changing venues we are going to include the typical fun and miscellaneous prizes, as well as including some more substantial cool prizes for the kids. We have budgeted for the typical fun prizes, but would like to have parents of all classes donate items to make this night special and memorable for the students.
So please check out this sign up and donate any item of your choice. It is a great way to make this night fantastic for our Graduates!
