Haycock Hello
April 9, 2018
A very big thank you to the Haycock Community for
the generous contributions to The American Heart Association Jump Rope for
Heart Fundraiser. We are happy to announce Haycock raised $10, 728.00 as
of April 6, 2018. We will be submitting the FINAL gift prize order on
April 12th. These prizes would be for any donations collected
between March 16th-April 12th. All additional
donations that are collected after April 12th, are greatly
appreciated, but will not be tied to a prize.
This
Friday, April 13, McLean High School students will host a Professional Women’s
Fair. The fair will include a wide range of women from different careers
which will allow female students to explore potential professional aspirations,
make connections with local women from a variety of career clusters, and learn
how to thrive as a woman in the professional world.
The keynote speaker will be Mary Rose McCaffrey, the current Vice President, Security, ES & CSO, Northrop Grumman Corporation since February 2016. She leads global security responsible for the protection of Northrop Grumman employees, facilities, and customer information.
The event begins at 1:30 in McLean’s auditorium. After the keynote, students will be able to meet and greet with professional women in the following professions: Economist, Virginia State Delegate, Small Business Owner, Lawyer, Doctor, Musician, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, University Admissions, plus much more.
The event is not limited to just McLean students, so feel free to bring family or friends along. Middle school and elementary students are welcome too! A bus is available for students at Longfellow Middle School at the end of the day. Students who want to ride the bus to McLean just need to show a signed note from a parent. Parents should pick up students from McLean High School at 3:00. For more information, please contact mcleanglc@gmail.com
We hope to see you there!
FCPS will hold the 13th annual Special Education Conference on Saturday,
April 21, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Hayfield Secondary School. The
conference, designed for parents and educators of students who receive special
education services or who have learning challenges or special needs, will
feature Dr. Pamela Mims, associate professor of special education and associate
dean of research and grants in the College of Education at East Tennessee
University, as the keynote speaker. Mims’ keynote topic is Using Evidence to
Guide Practice: Justifying Inclusion for All.
In addition, this year there will be more than
60 breakout sessions to choose from.

Fairfax County Public Schools has a Bring Your Own
Device (BYOD) policy that encourages students to use
their own personal electronic devices (such as laptops, tablets, and cell
phones) during the school day to enhance learning. At the same time, FCPS has
an obligation to guarantee a secure test environment during Standards of
Learning (SOL) testing.
The Virginia Department of Education requires that
schools restrict student access to cell phones and other personal electronic
devices during SOL tests. These restrictions are designed to maintain test
security and to minimize potential distractions while students are taking
tests.
View these tips
to help your child avoid SOL testing issues related to personal electronic
devices.
We are now in staffing season. The number of staff
members we are allocated is based upon student enrollment. If you have a
child or know of a family who has a child who will be attending Haycock next
school year and who currently does not attend Haycock, please register your
child now.
If a child has been accepted into the AAP program from another
school and the family has notified the AAP Office of the acceptance, there is
no need to notify Haycock. The AAP Office communicates the list of
students who will be attending Haycock from other schools to Haycock.
Click on the link below to fill out the form for rising
kindergarteners. If your child is turning 5 on or before September 30, 2018,
they are eligible for kindergarten. Partial registration paperwork is accepted.
This form is only requested to be completed if you have a rising
kindergartener attending Haycock next school year.

Right now, we want to make sure our school is fully staffed for
next school year. We also want to make sure we are able to have the
smallest class sizes possible. The sooner we know how many students will
be attending Haycock next school year, the sooner we can advocate for more
staff and then hire more teachers.
You are welcome to use the attached New Student Registration
Checklist in order to help you gather the information to register your child at
Haycock.
The person who is able to answer all of your registration
questions is Rebecca Wright. She is reached via e-mail at: rlwright@fcps.edu or call the school office
