Dear Parents,

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Spring Break!  It is great to see all of the students back!  We have many activities happening in our school this month, beginning April 13th  with the Silverbrook PTO Dance to support the Emma Jordon Kidz Fighting Cancer Foundation.  Several activities are planned during the month of April to support Childhood Cancer Awareness.  Don’t forget to check out the details in this newsletter.

We will be having our Kindergarten Orientation on Monday, April 16th.  If you have a rising kindergartener or know of anyone in the community who has a child who will enter kindergarten in August 2018 – please contact the school office.

Please be sure to read this newsletter.  You will find lots of updates and important information.  Thank you for your continued support of our school – it is very much appreciated.

Have an awesome April!

Student Intention Forms

All students have been given a form asking them to declare their attendance intentions for the 2018-2019 school year.  Please be sure to complete the form and return it to Silverbrook as soon as possible.

School Supply Assistance 2018

Silverbrook’s PTO is already working to get the orders for school supplies ready for next fall.  We appreciate the effort and organization that goes into this endeavor.  The PTO supports all students in many ways.  One way is that they supply school supply kits for students whose parents are unable to purchase supplies for their children.  This support is confidential and is organized through the Silverbrook School Counselors, Mike Isner and Carmen Pangelinan.  If you anticipate that you will need assistance with school supplies for your child(ren) next school year please email each child’s name and grade level for Fall 2018 to

mgisner@fcps.edu or

ccpangelinan@fcps.edu.

Dress Code

Warm weather is on the way, but don’t forget that students must dress appropriately and follow the FCPS dress code.  Shorts and skirts must be long enough to reach fingertips when arms are down straight.  No tube tops, halter tops, spaghetti straps  or clothing that shows the midriff, hangs off the shoulder or exposes undergarments.  For safety reasons flip flops and open-toed sandals are not permitted on class PE days.  Please ensure that your children dress accordingly or you will be notified.

5th Grade Parent Reminder

Virginia Law requires that all students entering sixth grade receive a booster dose of the Tdap vaccine prior to the beginning of school.  The Tdap vaccine protects against tetanus (lockjaw), diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough) and is usually given around the age of 11, although it can be given as early as seven years of age.  In order for your child to begin 6th grade you will need to submit one of the following documents before the first day of school: A copy of your child’s immunization record showing the Tdap vaccine, a note on a healthcare provider’s letterhead stating the date the Tdap vaccine was given, a healthcare provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption, a notarized Religious Exemption Form which is available online at: http://www.doe.virginia.gov/support/health medical/certificate religious  exemption.pdf. Please feel free to contact the school public health nurse, Sandy Campbell at 703-704-6091 if you have any questions.
