Literacy News

In Language Arts this quarter and next, students in grades 1-6 have been learning how to use their critical literacy skills to examine texts while being able to look at the perspective of the author and others. Students have been looking at a variety of texts ranging from fairy tales to stories of friendship to historical texts to practice these skills. In this unit, our students are learning to decide whether or not they want to agree with the ideas presented or form their own ideas. These are important skills for our 21st century learners.

Staff Appreciation

Staff Appreciation Week at Oak Hill Elementary is quickly approaching!  It is less than one month away and is taking place May 7-11.  We have a great week of festivities planned (including a catered lunch) that is sure to let our teachers and staff feel valued and appreciated.

We have two ways for parents to make a meaningful contribution to the festivities. You can either donate your time or make a voluntary monetary contribution.

VOLUNTARY MONETARY CONTRIBUTIONS

We are taking a slightly different approach this year and rather than asking parents to contribute supplies, we are asking for monetary donations to cover the costs of the week-long festivities. Its a quick and easy way for you to let the teachers and staff know how much you appreciate all that they do for your children.  We are accepting voluntary donations up until May 2, 2018. Donations may be made in three ways:

1. Check (made payable to "Lauren Meurlin" and sent in to the main office in an envelope labelled for "Lauren Meurlin, PTA Hospitality Coordinator")

2. Cash (sent in to the main office in an envelope labeled for "Lauren Meurlin, PTA Hospitality Coordinator)

3. Paypal (https://www.paypal.me/LaurenMeurlin). If prompted, be sure to select that you are sending a payment "to a friend" to avoid paying transaction fees.

A donation of $10 per student is suggested, but any amount is welcome. For more information about how to make a monetary donation, please click here.

VOLUNTEERING YOUR TIME

If you are interested in volunteering your time to help set-up and execute the planned festivities, please click here.
