 Principal Message
Welcome back!
It is so exciting to see all of our students
back in school this week! Whether your family went on vacation or had a
staycation, we hope it was a relaxing spring break for everyone!
It’s difficult to believe we’re already looking ahead to the
2018/2019 school year. One of our most important tasks as we prepare for next year is
to place students in appropriate class groupings.
We will work
collaboratively to ensure that the many facets of your child are taken into
consideration as we optimally organize classroom groupings. Some of these factors
include student personalities, friendships, and academic abilities. Other factors (such as
student enrollment and teacher movement) will likely impact the decision-making process
as well.
I welcome you to share insights about your child by using the Class Placement
Input form located on our GFES website. Please submit all forms before May 14th.
As you provide information, please note the following:
**Keep all comments positive. These forms will be shared with all school staff as
we work to create class groupings.
**We will not accept requests for specific teachers. This includes hints that
reference specific teachers.
**While it’s helpful to share names of your child’s friends, remember that
assigning a child to be with all of their friends cannot be our highest priority.
**If you prefer, handwritten forms will also be accepted. Please print, then
enclose the form in a sealed envelope and submit to the front office.
**All input must be received on or before Monday, May 14, 2018.
Sincerely,
Sara Harper, Principal

The
Art and Science of Talking with Your Kids, featuring Dr. Wendy Mogel
Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at 7
p.m. at Temple Rodef Shalom in McLean
Buy your tickets here (https://voicelessons.brownpapertickets.com)
for this essential guide to the art of talking with children of all ages. Learn
how to cultivate the art of conversation – from infancy to adulthood – in an
age of hurry, worry, and digital distraction. Presented by the Safe Community
Coalition, Dr. Mogel is known for combining cutting-edge psychological research
with timeless wisdom in guiding parents through the rough waters of child
rearing in today’s competitive world.
In her new book, Voice
Lessons for Parents: What to Say, How to Say it, and When to Listen,
Dr. Mogel shows us how a change in voice can transform communication and ease
the relationship between parents and children. Her research-based guidelines
help parents communicate with more warmth, respect, and sincerity, as well as
foster open parent-child relationships that will help ensure our children’s
success in the classroom and in life. Find more information at the Safe
Community Coalition website (http://mcleanscc.org/).
