LHMS Art Exhibit at USGS
Over 200 pieces of student artwork are currently on display at USGS through April 27. The address is 12201 Sunrise Valley Drive, Reston. They are open Mon-Fri 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Visitors will need to show valid ID and go through a security scan to get to the art exhibit.

Speakers Needed for Hughes MS Career Day
Would you like to help inspire young people in our community?
Hughes Middle School Annual Career Day
will take place on Thursday, April 19th from 9:00 – 10:30 am.
This year 7th graders will hear from a panel of George
Mason University student athletes discussing academics and athletics. 8th
graders will hear from guest speakers from various career professions.
We are looking for about 25 speakers from variety of career and
educational backgrounds. Each guest speaker will visit two 8th
grade classrooms for about 35 minutes each. If you are able to participate,

Odyssey of the Mind Team Advancing to State Finals!
Langston Hughes Middle School Odyssey of the
Mind team of Ben Petinaux, Lili Gabor, Chloe Kim, Harrison Muncrief, Kayla
Polio-Kline, Michael Juarez-Sesam, and E.J. Norton won 1st place at the
Northern Virginia Regional tournament for Classics/Mocumentary Division II held
at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology on March 18.
They will compete again at the state tournament in Newport News, VA on April
14. Coaches are Natasha Petinaux and Krisztina Gabor. Odyssey teams work
all school year on creative problem solving, with both impromptu and planned
problems.

SOL Testing Dates
For your planning purposes, the end of year SOL testing window for grades 7 and 8 is May 8th – May 23rd, with make-ups and retakes following those dates. Please note that high school credit courses – Algebra, Geometry, and world languages – also have end of year final exams.
Ramadan and Spring SOL Testing
This spring, the SOL non-writing window will overlap with Ramadan, the Muslim holy month marked by daily fasting from sunrise to sunset. Ramadan begins the evening of Tuesday, May 15, and ends the evening of Thursday, June 14.
Students who will be observing Ramadan may be given the option to test at the beginning of the spring SOL window (May 7-15) to avoid testing during the holiday. Parents of students observing Ramadan, if you wish for your child to test at the beginning of the SOL window (May 7 – 15), please contact the Director of Student Services, Michele Beard mbeard@fcps.edu by Monday, April 30th.

camp is only for students attending Hughes, Herndon, Carson, Longfellow or
Cooper Middle Schools in 2018-2019. Participants must be rising 7th and 8th

2018-19 Student Transfer High School Curricular Application
For transfers effective at the beginning of the 2018-19 school year, the enrolling parent will submit transfer applications and pay fees online. The enrolling parent will access the online student transfer application on the Student Transfer website at https://www.fcps.edu/registration/student-transfers. The application will be unavailable from 12:00am-5:00am daily for maintenance.
