Glasgow Community Gazette - April 1

Glasgow Community -

I hope you had a relaxing Spring Break. My family and I had an adventurous staycation. On Wednesday and Thursday we traveled to Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg to enjoy time in their indoor waterpark. Weather permitting, we hope to travel to Kings Dominion to ride roller coasters on Sunday.

We ended last week with the excitement of the 3rd annual Hunger Games. This is one of my favorite events of the year because it is an opportunity for all of our students to come together by grade, cheer on classmates and staff in the soccer and volleyball matches, and celebrate the remarkable accomplishment of collecting over 4,000 dry goods to be donated to a local food bank. Events like this are a huge undertaking, and require the support of every single one of our staff members. I am proud that Glasgow is place where we invest in our school culture and values through events like the Hunger Games. Special thanks to Laura Benevento for leading the project again this year and Ella Kim for leading the student dance performance.

Just a reminder, Monday, April 2 is a student holiday. For faculty and staff, Monday is a School Planning Day where we will focus on the importance of collecting evidence of student learning and building common language around assessments. We look forward to welcoming students back into the building on Tuesday, April 3 (odd day).

As always, please let me know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
Shawn P. DeRose
Principal

Article of the Week

This week’s article is from the Huffington Post titled, “Do You Want To Raise A Kind Child? Here’s How.” We as parents know from experience that in the big picture of life, kindness and happiness are closely linked. Kids, however, do not have the life experience to see this big picture.
