Haycock Hello 4-2-18

Haycock Hello

April 2, 2018

I wish everyone a fabulous return from Spring Break!  This was a well deserved break for our staff and students.  Hopefully everyone was able to read a great book and spend time with friends and family.  We are so proud of the on-going work our staff and students do on a daily basis.  Thank you for supporting Haycock!  I look forward to the rest of this school year.

Mr. Donnelly

Odyssey of the Mind

The Haycock Odyssey of the Mind Team B placed second in the Odyssey of the Mind regional competition on Sunday, March 18!  We are very proud of the hard work the students placed into the competition.  Thank you to coaches Kapur and Thomas for dedicating time and giving a venue for our students to be creative and have fun.

The students on the team are:

Isabelle Elders, Aashna Kapur, Angelina Thomas, Taran Kamat, and Alexander Mallus

National History Day Competition

All of our sixth grade students had the opportunity to compete in National History Day.  After the first round of competition here at Haycock, quite a few of our students made it to the District Level competition.  The District Level of competition was held at Mount Vernon High School on March 17.

We will know the outcomes of all the competitions shortly.  There is one competition we do know the results of and that is the exhibit board competition.  A group of Haycock students will be advancing to the State Level of National History Day in Richmond on April 21.  The students are: Conor Patton, Vic Van Vrnaken, Hollis Freeman, and Tyler Fontenot.  We are so proud of the hard work the students have put into creating their exhibit!

All of the projects were very well done and it is apparent the students have put a lot of time and effort into their work.  This is a great example of a hands-on and interactive approach to learning.  Thank you to Ms. Pratt for bringing the joy of National History Day to Haycock.  All of the sixth grade teachers did a great job scaffolding the learning for their students.  The parents have supported their children through this learning process and we enjoy being partners in education with you.  Thank you!

Registration for 2018-2019 School Year

We are now in staffing season.  The number of staff members we are allocated is based upon student enrollment.  If you have a child or know of a family who has a child who will be attending Haycock next school year and who currently does not attend Haycock, please register your child now.

If a child has been accepted into the AAP program from another school and the family has notified the AAP Office of the acceptance, there is no need to notify Haycock.  The AAP Office communicates the list of students who will be attending Haycock from other schools to Haycock.

Click on the link below to fill out the form for rising kindergarteners. If your child is turning 5 on or before September 30, 2018, they are eligible for kindergarten. Partial registration paperwork is accepted.  This form is only requested to be completed if you have a rising kindergartener attending Haycock next school year.

Right now, we want to make sure our school is fully staffed for next school year.  We also want to make sure we are able to have the smallest class sizes possible.  The sooner we know how many students will be attending Haycock next school year, the sooner we can advocate for more staff and then hire more teachers.

You are welcome to use the attached New Student Registration Checklist in order to help you gather the information to register your child at Haycock.

The person who is able to answer all of your registration questions is Rebecca Wright.  She is reached via e-mail at: rlwright@fcps.edu or call the school office at: 703-531-4002
