Safe & Orderly Campus March 14

Dear TJ Parents and Guardians:

This is a quick note to let you know all went well on our campus today as student-led walkouts occurred across the nation in response to the tragic event one month ago in Parkland, Florida.  As previously communicated, our goals included ensuring the integrity of our academic program, maintaining a safe environment, and recognizing student rights and responsibilities.

First, I would like to acknowledge staff for adopting a positive approach and neutral stance that ensured a peaceful student-led event on our campus.  Next, students are to be commended  for their cooperation as they conducted an orderly event.  There were a couple hundred students who remained in classrooms.  Other students exited at approximately 10:00 a.m., assembled in the stadium, and reentered the building in an orderly fashion.  Most classrooms returned to normal teaching and learning by 10:45 a.m.  Finally, seniors on a field trip in Washington, DC appropriately engaged with elected officials and other representatives.

Our school continues to be committed to providing an environment where everyone is treated with respect.  Each day our teachers, administrators and support staff reinforce a sense of positive school community.  We thank you for your partnership in working with your children to discuss how they can appropriately take meaningful, responsible and accountable actions on topics that are important to them.

I am proud of how our Colonial community accomplished its collective goals today.

Sincerely,

Ann N. Bonitatibus

Principal
